I am told (post takes longer to reach me in Germany) that Richard's masthead is in b/w, unlike the version on his website, but the others have colour leaflets. Is this true?
Yes, the background is b & w (or brownish/black), Richard's head (face very tanned) & shoulders are in colour. I would expect this to have been how it was submitted.

Nigel's colour pic is soft, bordering on out of, focus. Header is b & w copy, 'A message from Nigel Farage.'
Interestingly it is the only one on the front top left to have 'The UKIP Leadership Election 2006' printed.

DCB header is purple & grey colour with not the best of colour in the face shot

David Noakes good clean colur pic with header as b/w copy.

Use of black and white pics is a way of making the presentation different in these days of full colour and can help concentrate on the message.

No comment deliberately made on the message content but above as requested.

Richard is none too happy because he was told that he was only allowed to have his photo in colour and everything else had to be black and white. We were somewhat surprised (or not) to find DCB's entirely in colour.

One rule for us.....

Does he have that in writing?

Apart from the Party Constitution there is an interesting document called "Rules for the conduct of UKIP Leadership, NEC, Regional Committee Elections and Ballots for Regional Public elected Offices".

One would assume from this that candidates' material should all be in black and white, but it is too late to argue about that now.

However, trying to make sense of what was intended, together with all the conflicting clauses must be a mind-boggling exercise for any Party Returning Officer. I wish him well.

He doesn't, really. Threw his hand in as he thought he had to, and was pushed a bit. Has actually stated he doesn't want to be leader, and will put someone else in to run the party.
So no change there then!

Appear to have got that wrong then. If so, how bloody unprofessional of the Press Office.

Perhaps Mark would care to comment before all go off on one?

If this is accurate I trust that Richard will make and substantiate a complaint.

I have made a request/complaint for a formal explanation from Geoffrey Kingscott as Acting Returning Officer regarding David Lott's unsolicited circular e-mail promoting Nigel. DL is still, I understand, an employee and that he only had permission to use his private e-mail address list. I certainly would not be on that, therefore the inference is that he used a UKIP list.

Just like to clarify, as Tony says above, 'one rule for us....' or should that be 'one rule for the few....'?

This was nothing to do with Mark Croucher, before he gets the blame.

It's not worth it. The complaints are going in left, right and centre from candidates and party members and Geoffrey is in an impossible position. I don't think that there would be any candidates left if he upheld all of the complaints.

Fair enough. I never said Mark was responsible I was asking for an explanation from him as Director of Communications. You know, responsibility and all that but if not on this Forum hopefully, at least, to Richard.

It's fairly minor really, but bizzare.

Perhaps the printers have rules of cost for colour and DCB's fairly monotone colours were acceptable, but all the photo's in Richards wasn't.
