Default UKIP seeking candidates from outside the party??

Today's press release (wrongly dated again)
Quote:
Only the best need apply

09-08-2006

The Labour, Liberal Democrat and Conservative Parties came under fire today (10.8.06) for their quota-filling agendas, as UKIP placed an advert in ‘The Spectator’ for candidates of the future.

The move towards 'positive discrimination' for candidates was dismissed as "damaging" by UK Independence Party Chairman David Campbell Bannerman.

"Arbitrary quotas and positive selection are damaging to the people it claims it helps. There is nothing positive in any form of discrimination. People should not be selected for anything simply because of their colour, race or gender - they should be selected because they are the best person for that job – simply on merit."

The Conservative Party recently faced embarrassment in Bromley when David Cameron's A-List candidate was rejected in favour of a local candidate, and many good candidates have been abandoned because their face no longer fits. The Labour Party suffered an even greater defeat when Party member Peter Law resigned over the imposition of all-women candidate lists and promptly won at the General Election, as an Independent.

"The UK Independence Party believes that people should be selected on merit alone", continued Mr Campbell Bannerman. "We simply want the brightest and best to apply. We will select candidates based on conviction, love of country and talent."

The UK Independence Party has 10 MEPs in the European Parliament, and beat the Liberal Democrats to third place in the 2004 Euro elections (nearly 17% of the vote).
It might have been nice if the party could have told its members exactly what this advertisement says.

It also feels pathetic if a press release opens by saying that we have criticised the other parties in an advertisement. Well gooddee.

Typical Tory pressure group tactics - waste some more money. And I would also like to know what it says, I spoke to my RO this morning who is hopefully going to find out.

What could it possibly be advertising, and why?

I am putting this in the Leadership section since it is a blatant bit of electioneering from DCB just as the ballots are about to arrive with members.

This wasn't discussed with the NEC and we weren't even given the courtesy of being informed that it was happening.

This is the Spectator Ad:-

Quote:
GOOD CANDIDATES – WE WANT YOU !

Britain’s 4th largest political party UKIP ( with 10 MEPs and 16% vote in 2004 ) seeks good candidates for Westminster, local and European elections.

Candidates will be selected on merit and capability alone. No arbitrary quota, race-based or gender discrimination criteria will be applied. A track record demonstrating a love of country, genuine principles, Eurosceptic credentials and hard work will be sufficient.

UKIP is a coalition party with former MPs, Lords, mayors and councillors from the 3 old parties.

Applicants should contact: The Party Chairman, David Campbell Bannerman, on partychairman@ukip.org or write to him at: UKIP Candidates, The Old Grain Store, Church Lane, Lyminster, West Sussex, BN17 7QJ, or call Tel: 01903 885573.
Any body any clue as to whose the address is? And why - (stupid question!) not head office? Or is this some kind of crank and gadfly joke I'm missing?

How anyone can call DCB a puppet of Farage, I don't know.
