I'd be happier if candidates were recruited via the Spectator than the New Statesman.

I would have chosen to wait until we knew who the leader and chairman were, and promote that on the back of the other "new leader" publicity next month - a trick missed

I recall reading the Spectator in 2000, with its often witty comments on the then UKIP leadership row that almost split the party in two. Ironically, it was probably one of the few places that you COULD read anything in the press regards to what was happening to UKIP at that time (this is the period after Michael Holmes was sent-a-packing, and there were accusations and counter-accusations with changes of addresses, legal threats, stolen member data bases, ad infinitum).

Sound a tad familiar?

I also seem to recall that the UKIP candidate for the Tottenham by-election, was recruited to the party just ONE month before the count (wasn't he a local muslim chemist?), and that a similar thing occurred for the by-election in Hampshire (both of these some years ago now), though I don't remember the seat.

What exactly is the point in being a member of UKIP when the leadership treats its members with such alleged contempt? Besides, surely anyone wanting to stand to represent UKIP should have been a member at least for a year or longer, unless of course they are escapees from other parties. Is there not some rule for those wishing to be committee members or members to the NEC, if so, why are prospective election candidates exempt (if they are)?

If you can advertise for candidates, you may as well just advertise for all party positions to filled. And wouldn't the monies spent on this advert have been better spent simply asking for people to JOIN UKIP?

And UKIP complains about EU waste!

I notice there is no reference in the advert.

In the future, when UKIP runs a series of adverts etc in mutiple newspapers, we should place a reference that can be quoted so that we can track how successful each advert is. Not necessary here as it is just a single ad.

It may give us some interesting info and help us target campaigns to papers with more sympathetic readers for example.

Cynics might argue that the reference is DCB and you can argue it's success on whether he gets elected as leader? As said before, the timing sucks...

The timing is perfect vis a vis the forthcoming party conferences.

So you're happy for UKIP to be advertising for non-members to become candidates without even telling the NEC, I take it.

I would be most happy to pick up more candidates of the calibre of Richardski ,himself a recent entrant to our party. The advert is not for a leader.
The NEC appears to be dysfunctional as currently constituted;they cannot even clarify NEC voting procedures or determine who is the Party Secretary, and it is very factionalised. The one time cohesive Lechlade cabal on the NEC now seems itself to be in turmoil as other members turn against Delroy for independently choosing DCB over Richard.
With what are reported as interminably lengthy meetings that fail to discuss all items on the agenda I am not surprised that it is bypassed.

Actually it is the leadership that is dysfunctional and the leadership, or lack of it, which creates the factions. It is the paranoia of people like Nigel Farage and Roger Knapman that drives them to invent enemies that otherwise would not exist.

The problems on the NEC are merely a reflection of weak and ineffective leadership
