Default To spam or not to spam?

It would appear that the precedent has been set, and unsolicited emails are in fact perfectly acceptable during the campaign, according to the Returning Officer.

Although many branch chairmen and other party members have been operating under the impression that they cannot send unsolicited letters, this is in fact false information.

The only rule that needs to be adhered to is that official UKIP lists cannot be used. However, if you have built up your own list of contacts over the years, it would seem that this is perfectly acceptable.

So, all those Richard supporters out there, start emailing everyone in your address book and spread the good word.

This is serious lads and lasses.

Over the years some party members such as David Lott could have built up a massive private list of email addresses by virtue of their various offices. To use this to promote Nigel Farage is patently unfair to the others candidates.

Whether or not this practice has been approved by the Returning Officer or Acting Returning Officer, the Party is in much more trouble than we thought.

It looks like this one is going to be no holds barred.

I wonder what will happen to the ballot papers, and will the envelopes have members numbers on the envelope as for the last NEC election.

I don't think we have seen even a quarter of the tricks yet.

Can't say I am surprised though.

On the other hand, you might think that Lott may have access to a list oif e-mails by virtue of his office/

So the question becomes whether anyone got an e-mail who has not had personal and private e-mail correspondance from Lott previously.

So, is there anyone out there who got this and felt that they shouldn't have?

The issue here is surely that Lott is a salaried member of UKIP staff.

He sends out an e-bulletin to members on a regular basis, that we assume to be factual.

Now he has sent out an e-mail urging members to vote for Farage in the leadership election.

This cannot be right.

I can answer the reverse of your question if that might be helpful? I have received the newsletters written by Lott about UKIP in the European parliament. I have not received any emails seeking support for any UKIP leadership candidate.

I have, in duplicate, from David Lott sent 70 mins apart last night.

I have also replied to David Lott asking several questions and querying his interpretation of the facts of his assertion for Nigel.

Bear in mind that DL has retired from his employed position, hasn't he?

He is not a Chairman, is he?

Therefore as a member I assume (?) he is entitled to tout. Isn't he?

Does any-one know any different?

If unsolicited campaigning is now allowed (and I am fairly sure that it wasn't prior to David Lott's email), then any member is free to do so, providing they don't use party resources.

Dear David,

There can be no objection to the use of a personal address list provided that it was not directly quarried from official membership lists. If it has been built up incrementally from people you have been in direct correspondence with, then it is a personal address list.
Best regards
