I think the core of the problem is that Anthony and his team like to think of themselves as the modernisers in the party when they are really just a group of modernisers and they do not take kindly to other modernisers, not in agreement with them, from appearing.

There does seem to be a real and often repeated 'but we were here first' attitude. Tough. It counts for nothing.

There's room for all of us. I certainly don't think Anthony has the right solutions for UKIP, and I'm sure the feeling is mutual, however the fact is, there is more than one group of modernisers within the party.

Hopefully good ideas will come from all different groups, none of us has all the answers.

The thread-bare line here is that Nigel and DCB are incapable of change, will destroy the party and only Anthony's chosen group can bring change. That's simply not true. Things are moving on now and some of us see the same issues, but think the solution will be to build on Nigel and DCB not discard them or abuse them.

There's now a competition of ideas and that can only be good for UKIP.

I agree, iron sharpens iron. As long as the spat is about a shared desire, to modernise and produce an effective UKIP, without dropping the core value of Indepence for the UKIP, then that will work. Of course, Independence in a modernising context meaning to be Internationalist not Isolationist.

I agree. I hope that UKIPHome will evolve into its own modernising alternative to the Lechladers.

Competition. It's a good thing, it's here now, and it's not going away.

I'd just like to write that I've gone back to the UKIP avatar because we should bear in mind we are all in the same party and also to reflect that I put UKIP above my preferred candidate, DCB and will support whomever is chosen. I've only just committed myself to UKIP, I'm not an old hand (for reader who don't know me). I believe 3 candidates can take this party forward, now that Nigel has written about domestic policy.

As a member of UKIP Home, I can say that Chad posted about it here on this forum, it wasn't meant to be an alternative, and Matt for one joined. However, the response from Lechladers was generally very poor. That is why it is an alternative, and it backs up Chad's claim about them not wanting any other modernisers. All my opinion.

As above. An unwelcolming bunch if ever there was. UKIPHome was not created as an alternative, but an extension, but the aggressive response has led me to head in a different direction because I simply cannot work with these people.

Have ALL those who've attended Lechlade meetings responded aggressively to you, Chad?

No, and those who support ukiphome within the Lechlade group are more than welcome. It's a competition of ideas, not organisations, and any overlap is welcome.

But I have no intention of working with Anthony. I don't trust him. I'm sure the feeling is mutual, and that is fair enough.

However as I noted, this is healthy, and UKIP can only be the winner having different groups seeking for forward the party.

There's no need for aggression, the aim is simple; to help UKIP grow. Unlike Anthony, I have no aim for any form of elected office. I am not seeking to slide up the greasy pole, just help influence a values-based agenda that I support.

I'd very much like to see many pro-ukip sites like ukiphome to emerge that all succeed in drawing in more members to the new ukip-member forum, to help it grow and help us focus on growing the party in a positive ukip-only environment.

So, you see, I personally want to see as much competition as possible, and would love to see a lot more 'feeder' sites like ukiphome appearing online.

It's an army of Davids and ukiphome is aiming to simply be one of those Davids. Nothing more or less.

Same here, I support ideas which will help our Country. I used to say that I wasn't bothered about Party just Country. Country first, Party second. I heard Ken clarke on Tory Radio say it the other way around.

I believe on reflection that my attitude has contributed to the instability I had in 2005 between March and July where I swapped parties. So now I pledge to support UKIP through thick and thin. If UKIP do something I'm very unhappy about I won't leave the Party and join another. If Chad ever decided to form another Party, which I doubt he would, I would not join him. We have to debate what we believe within UKIP, there is room for debate, and debates aren't always won. My blog is on the front page of UKIP Home, it has an entry which explains my party swapping past for anyone interested. I have a blog here too, which people can find by clicking on the weblog button on my posts. I haven't updated that one for a couple of days because of difficulties on this forum.
