Make it 4 in a row.

No show at Cannock.

Derek Clarke was expecting Moran to turn up instead - but he didn't either.

Has anyone actually tried to get hold of him? Is he O.K?

I meant Farage, I am just amazed he has chosen to snub 4 hustings in a leadership contest.

It's almost Blairesque in arrogance.

I recon if you cannot be bothered to turn up at a hustings, then you should be automatically withdrawn from the contest. Breathtaking arrogance springs to mind!

3 strikes and you're out, anyone? At a minimum it should be posted in Independence News...

For anyone who wishes the membership to vote them in to become leader of the party and then not make themselves available for the membership to question them at the hustings is not only arrogant but also ignorant and extremely bad mannered! Unfortunately as was said in a previous posting, UKIP members who post on this forum are a very small percentage of the membership as a whole, so Nigel expects his TV strutting which I confess he is extremely good at to be enough to get the majority of the membership to vote for him, judging by the low turnouts at the hustings so far he's ( Unfortunately) probably right!

He shouldn't take his support for granted. 40% of people specifically didn't vote for him in the NEC elections, despite having 8 votes to cast.

Of the 60% who did vote for him, some wouldn't want him as leader. Add a few more in who have been converted at the hustings away from him and Nigel will be lucky to get 50%. His vote can only go down from there in my opinion.

Richard, however, is catching up quickly. His fast paced 'tour' across the country to talk to members is paying dividends; the members are seeing that there is an alternative. I have even heard that at least one senior Farage supporter has admitted that Richard is ahead with the activists now. Hence Nigel will be depending, as you say, on the less active members who may not have an opportunity to see or meet Richard.

Nigel's preparing his excuses isn't he. He knows that if he wins having hardly tried it will make him seem stronger and if he loses he will say well I hardly tried, didn't really want it you know.

I doubt that's it. He probably feels he's better off tactically not descending to mix it with what he probably sees as the three dwarves and sullying his image by exposting himself to criticism.

Oh course it's hugely disrespectful. But tactically who's to say he's wrong.
