Mark,
Are the Metric Martrys Fund on record as having received this money ? I seem to recall that UKIP had a Metric Martrys Fund to which we all contributed ,don`t recall anything re the MEPs giving a donation now that I think about it. Are you sure it was a donation to them and not to someone /thing else ? |

Thanks Mark.
I have looked at the old newspaper reports now and it would appear that because the (UKIP?) accounts openly showed such a (trust?) fund holding and donating £11500 to the Metric Martrys Fund the whole business ,not surprisingly came to the notice of the EU . Indeed the fact that this money had allegedly been donated from their excess expenses was held up by them as proof of our MEPs good faith as far as not getting involed in the EU Gravy Train . The question I pose is this did NF and JT deliberately go ahead with this clear and unequivical and very public donation of excess expenses knowing that the EU would have to take the action that it did or were they genuinely taken surprise by its response . Further I am confused as to why the matter should ever show up in our acounts or was it just noted in our accounts that such a (private payment ) was made as it is my information that no such separate trust account for the alleviation of distressfor those affected by the EU was ever set up by the MEPs. This is an important topic simply because it is put forward as a reason for MEPs not openly using their excessive expense money for the Eurosceptic cause. |

It was a good idea but it is not the end of the story .
I have spoken to Neil Herron today .The Metric Martrys Fund NEVER received such an amount of money from the MEPs in question .The fund keeps meticulous records I am told and is a properly set up trust fund which is fully audited .Neil Herron is checking to see whether any money was received from the MEPs in question . It did gratefully receive a £2,500 cheque from UKIP members in October 2000. Further to that it was the Metric Martrys Fund which paid all the lawyers fees in the case, except for the original opinion which was in the public domain at an early stage . This information casts serious doubt on what we have been told re this matter and begs the question as to what really happened to the excess expenses .Where did they go if not to the MM Fund or the legal expenses of the case ? |

I emailed all the MEPs for London (where I was living at the time) and asked them about excess travel expenses. The Green MEP quite openly admitted that she donated the excess to her party for literature etc.
