BASILDON BOY is just starting out
Default Female, black Asian or ethnic minority UKIP MEPs

It seems the LibLab Con are bending over backwards to ensure they have as many as possible women, black, asian or ethnic minority candidates in the next General Election.

What are UKIP doing to ensure that our MEPs are a bit more representative of modern Britain?

Our MEPs are all white mostly older men. (Although Kilroy was orange this does not count as ethnic minoroty!)

Not one woman or person from an ethnic minority.

So do UKIP have any positive plans to address this?

Waht do our Leadership candidates have to say about this issue?

We shouldn't put people forward for MEPs just because they're an ethnic minority. We should put forward the best person for the job. If they happen to be black, orange or a martian, then that's fine - but if the best candidates are all old white men, so be it.

Say we have 3 hopefuls - 2 white men, one asian woman. The asian woman is absolutely useless at the job, constantly says stupid things in the press etc. So does one of the white men, but the other man's pretty good. Should we have the asian as an MEP, when we have a much better candidate who isn't a minority? This is just an example btw, I'm not thinking of anyone in particular.

Also, you say we don't have a female MEP - has Bellatrix resigned? Or is she not actually a woman?

She is not actually an MEP - never was. Worked in brussels, of course, but not an MEP.

Basildon Boy, what is an 'ethnic minority'. Why should ethnic minorities be allowed to define what it means? The definition in mainly asian or afro-caribean constituencies would by WHITE european, no? Why is it in highly mixed racial areas, the parties fall over hemselves to get a non-white candidate elected by, I suppose, their peers? They should be choosing a WHITE candidate surely?

Besides, what about the lack of blond or red-haried candidates, that are indicative of specific ethnic origins? I don't hear anyone demanding that more red-heads are chosen. What about geographic discrimination? How many candidates from, say, Cornwall, Cumbria or Shropshire are chosen to represent the parties. They each have a population equal to a number of individual ethnic or religious minorities nationally. Talking about religious groups, how many lutherans are chosen, or committed pagans, to represent UKIP or other parties.

On the other hand, why is there a disproportionate number from the Jewish faith allowed to represent the parties? Now there is an interesting question!

This whole "equal ops" nonsense, is just that, nonsense. UKIP should stay well clear.

People of Celtic origin are disproportionately represented. Few if any Celtic constituencies are represented by Englishmen, but many people of Celtic origin (Blair, Cameron etc) represent English constituencies. I feel very discriminated against.

Yeah, that too. Again, if you FEEL discriminated against, then you probably are or could be. What about the vertically challenged, deaf people, blind people, those speaking Welsh, or Scots and Irish gaelic - all a minority of one form or another?

I completly disagree with any attempt to select more candidates from ethnic minorities or female candidates.
The candidates selected for either westminster, European or local election should be selected for their ability to do the job not because of the colour of their skin or of their sex.
If you are good enough you would selected.

Let's just hope that the process of selecting prospective MEPs is entirely transparent and democratic.

I wonder if Rusty Lee would be interested in applying?

The only qualification I am looking for in an MEP, is how do they come across as a person to the media. I think she would do quite well on that front.

What exactly will be the process by which MEP candidates are nominated and then selected across the different regions? Does anyone know?
