Default DCB launches his website

www.dcb2win.org

Westminster in the background is clearly a popular theme

Interestingly, Gerard Batten is choosing to support DCB over Nigel Farage.

I like the meta description:

<link href="david.css" rel="stylesheet">

<meta name="Description" content="Two charming gites in southern France">
<meta content="David Campbell Bannerman A Personal Manifesto for the leadership of UKIP" http-equiv="content">

I guess it was built by the same person who did this one:
http://www.gitesdesfigues.com/

There is a lot more content on DCB's site than Nigel's. He does appear to have a vision of how the party should proceed.

Quote:
My respect for Nigel Farage is also immense. He is courageous, energetic, a brilliant orator and 100% committed to UKIP. Should I become Leader, I would lead the Party overall, but concentrate almost entirely on the UK, which needs so much work, whilst asking Nigel to continue to lead in Europe, which he is doing so well.

I would work side by side with Nigel, asking him to focus on the time intensive roles he has as Leader of our MEPs and as Co-Chairman of the Ind Dem Group in Brussels, and to carry on his media and campaigning work unchanged ( not cut him out as others suggest ), whilst I focus on UK affairs. It’s 2 leaders for the price of 1 !
I just don't get it. If he and Nigel are so close, why are they both standing? Why hasn't Nigel stood down to endorse DCB?

So do you think DCB in London and Nigel in Brussels is the dream ticket? It might be.

What will happen when they disagree though? They clearly have very different visions for where the party should be. Nigel wants us to be an anti-EU pressure group, yet DCB states:
Quote:
UKIP must become a serious, larger, UK-wide political party, which is professional, credible, broadly based and effective at every level of politics; one which offers a full and radical manifesto of policies
Those two visions are not compatible. We can't vote for half a leader - whoeever wins must be leader for the entire party, not giving someone else a fiefdom to run independently. We need a single, consistent message. DCB and Farage are completely at odds with each other in terms of that message and the result could be a total hodge-podge.

First impression, as someone who knows next to nothing about DCB (and ignoring the html errors) is that this is a serious, quality candidate.

I'll read through the PDF later, and it is hard to explain, but it just 'feels' right. Any way, that is my first impression. That is certainly good for the leadership election.

I agree. I think that DCB is a far better candidate than Nigel in terms of offering an intellectual base/vision for the party. However, his willingness to bow down to Nigel is extremely worrying - we need someone strong who is going to get Nigel into line and working with the party image/message, not just doing what he wants, as happens now.

We need one leader not two, and I think that it is a bizarre admission that he can't control Nigel.

What is he like as Chairman? Tales of 6 hour NEC meetings a bit worrying.

That will depend upon who you ask on the NEC. Some love him, others hate him as Chairman.

My principle concern with him and other members of the inner circle is their willingness to attack the messenger rather than the message. Far too often he and others engage in personal attacks rather than dealing with the questions, criticims or suggestions raised. It is extremely unprofessional.

To be fair to him, I think that he has got some decent ideas about reorganisation, and is putting them into place. He has also organised some proper research from the Brussels researchers.

I don't recall seeing him ever standing up to Farage or bringing him to order when he has had one of his shouting tantrums in the NEC meetings; I don't think that he copes well with confrontation. This causes genuine disruption in the meetings, which run noticeably smoother when Nigel is absent. On the flip side, he does always try to allow people to have their say which is good.

I have noticed a tendency for him to invent powers for himself as well, in a rather dictatorial manner, and if he was leader we would need a very strong NEC to stand up to him.

I think that he would be useful in an organisational role in the party if he would accept some more discipline, but I don't think that he is strong enough to stand up to Nigel and would end up as a his poodle in Britain.

Six hours for an NEC meeting really isn't long enough, to be honest, especially since so many NEC members are unwilling to engage in constructive discussion and decision making between meetings.

I've heard of NEC meetings still going on at 11pm... Count yourself lucky, Anthony...
