I seem to remember one Mark Lester (wasn't he Oliver in the film??) trying something similar some years back. Sadly he didn't succeed as even I as an over 50 can appear young and sprightly at UKIP gatherings :!: :!: The aforementioned Mark is probably nearer Fagin in age now rather than Oliver! I don't mean to be discouraging. One angle you could play is that student loans, tuition and top up fees could be abolished if we stopped throwing money down the EU pan. |

This thread & postings in it make one cry . The subject has beeen raised many times in the past. It is self evident that building a vibrant mechanism to attract nuture and hold young members is essential if UKIP is to survive. Yet The Leader , MEPs and NEC are not interested and have totally failed on this issue. New NEC members seem to have made no impact. All seem content for UKIP and its cause to be doomed. I can understand MEPs dont care .....having a whale of a trime and looking forward to a fat EU pension when they shove off in 3 years, but why doesn't the NEC care ?

Hi,
UKIP Youth (the "official" replacement for Youthkip) was chaired by Katy Davies until she left for the United States. As far as I am aware there is currently no chairman of UKIP Youth. Annabelle Fuller who was deputy chairman has said elsewhere on this forum that she doesn't want the position because of her work obligations. She did recently change jobs within the party so perhaps this situation has changed, I do not know. Brendan, we had a database of over 40 in actuality. Thanks, Alex PS: Hi Mark, how you keeping? You were already one of my MSN contacts so feel free to chat ![]() |

I talked with four good younger people at the Cannock hustings. It's a tragedy for the party that they feel adrift.
A youth wing (or whatever you want to call it, I really don't care) should be a thorn in any leadership's side. They should keep throwing up ideas. Many of them will be old or off the wall, but some will be lightbulb moments for the party. That's one problem for a leadership that wants to control everything. Another is that the people I talked to aren't stupid and they aren't deferential. If they get given leaflets which are rubbish, they won't shrug or mutter, they will say so bluntly. In summary, they will do a lot to keep the party on its toes. Understandably, people who think they're at the centre of the universe will hate that. But the people I met on Sunday will pay the party back in enthusiasm and commitment as well as inventiveness and bluntness. |

This is a great idea and something we need to get off the ground.
As John said our youth wimg should be a thorn in our leaderships side. I am the youngest member of our branch at 24. We often talk about the social side too. I think our youth wing should be a mix of social and political gatherings. If I can help in anyway please pm me Regards Ryan Newell Vice Chairman UKIP Southampton |
