Seeing as he hasn't got a thread to himself yet, we'll kick his off with this.

"Dictatorship... police state... persecute us more than soviet citizens... EU = police state... imprisoned in the EU... EU will abolish counties and councillors... no free press in the European Union... Common Purpose"
He is certainly trying the scare tactics :? David Noakes is, perhaps, even more of an anti-EU purist than Nigel I would say, on the evidence of that video. I am yet to be convinced that shouting THE TRUTH louder and louder is going to make even the slightest impact. If people aren't interested, they don't listen. |

Sounds like a good candidate for a pressure group though.
Are the CIB, Freedom Assosiation etc looking for a new leader?

I don't think this kind of approach has any chance of success whether in a political party or a pressure group. Passion is one thing, scaremongering, however much you believe it will lose you the mass of centre-ground sympathy.
That said, this reactionary approach is the polar opposite to the progressive one, so David and I are not likely to agree with each other's approach. |

This pitch - which will feel comfy to some UKIP traditionalists - would make UKIP seem even more of a fanatical ghetto grouping.
His proposals for campaigns show breathtaking lack of judgement over what is politically practicable. How likely is it that MPs would let opponents in to surgeries? How likely is it that Fred with his council house problem will want to hear about the EU? He's manged to come up with a main pitch which is a worse idea than the petition - and that takes some doing. David Noakes is snug in his little anti-EU burrow. He is probably the worst candidate for the leadership, and that is saying something. |

I'm thinking in terms of progressives for whom ukip is not currently attractive but could be tempted if the right change is followed.
The actual figure is not significant, I'm just trying to gauge what impact it would have in % term (ie then I know 1,000 would be 20% etc). I just would like to know the true current membership numbers free from exaggeration. |
