Is is as low as 5,000? Does Anthony, our webmaster, NEC member have an accurate figure?

I would be surprised if it was anywhere near the acclaimed high of 27,000 two years. It is a matter of how many members are NOT re-newing the subs that will be telling.

I agree. Surely members are entitled to an accurate figure? Plus it is vital that we have a verifiable figure now to judge the impact of the new leader.

Perhaps a party audit should be required before any change in leadership, to assess not just membership changes, but changes in finance patterns as well.

Yes, I'd like to see an independently verified quarterly figure. Surely ukip should be honest and do this?

I don't think that's the best use of whatever money we have.

Anyway, only an open and inclusive leadership would agree to this - and if it's an open and inclusive leadership you don't need the audit!

Perhaps John, but can anyone give me an honest spin-free number?

The NEC does get regular updates on the membership numbers. I think that it was about 17,700 last time.

Back on to David Noakes...

I can't say how much phrases like this worry me:
"I believe that the police state is being largely implemented and enforced by computers, which are an enormous threat to our liberty, and the use of computers in government and corporations should be severely curtailed by law. "

"I believe many struggle to make ends meet, while more than half of our taxes are wasted by government."

The press would tear us to shreds if these became official statements. Now it may just be that he has misphrased these and that they would disappear with an a team of advisors around him, but it worries me that they made it into the public domain at all.

Not sure about the first statement but I certainly agree with the second.
It is a truthful statement - why do you not want the truth told?

We are in the rotten state we are because the truth is hidden and often replaced with lies - do you really want to continue this?
