Most people don't see the EU. All they see is Blair and his mates.

However, for the cost of a billboard for one week, you can kit out a car or van with posters and loudspeakers and go down every street. And you still have the gear for the next election.

Furthermore, you are in complete control.

Billboards are a waste of time effort and money - far easier to organise local petition style campaigns/demonstrations/meetings

They were effective for 2004 euro - non-UKIP people I know notice them and commented on them. But you need the cash.

Demonstrations have there place. A tool to heighten the profile and gain local publicity. Hold demonstration on an issue - ideal to gain publicity if you are holding a public meeting later that day or that week!

Billboards and advertising are great...but only if you have the right adverts, message and look. I have never seen even a reasonable UKIP billboard or advert. Those so far have all been narrow minded and simply reinforced a negative image of UKIP. Examples include 'We Want Our Country Back', 'The Channel Funnel' and 'Lets Leave The EU And Limit Immigration'. I am all in favour of strictly controlled immigration and leaving the EU, but the advertising is bad. It's got to be less insular sounding and more attractive to ordinary people.

Even if you have great marketing, you have to gave something to back it up.

Cocacola could probably sell you rats **** in a can and many people would try it.

Would they keep buying it though?

I think UKIPs churn can at least be partly put down to the product.

Apart from resurrecting RKS, how would you positively publicise UKIP? (I realise that there may be a contradiction in terms in there according to some people).
You don't publicise UKIP directly. You promote a candidate with ideas that are apropriate for the particular election in a particular place. In May, UKIP achieved its objective of defeating the Leader of the Tory Council in Southend. Not with slogans such as, "Better off out", etc. but, "Vote for Casino Killer Croft". That got 18% of the vote. - There is a picture of one side of the A3 size leaflet in the current issue of "Flag".

But first you need good campaigning candidates supported by a good team.
