Ideally I believe everyone should join CIB, Freedom Association etc for their anti-EU activities and then let UKIP become more of a rounded party, with the obvious anti-EU stance stated in manifestos and at EU elections.
Agreed. UKIP should be the political party to deliver the withdrawal with its clear pledge to withdraw, but let a closely associated single-issue pressure group focus on campaigning on a day-to-day non euro-election basis.

This separation would signify a significant positive shift in the eyes of the public without diluting any of the benefit.

I would also prefer to see the withdrawal stance as being anti-regionalism, pro-internationalism rather than simply 'anti-eu' as that will highlight that the eu is hindering not helping to solve international issues.

You can see the benefits of leaving the EU but others can't.
Some people in UKIP think we should chant "I want to leave the EU" - personally I think they are loony. We should leave the EU so we can have lower crime etc and explain why (stop EU immigrants with criminal records like that man who killed the girl in Heathrow last year entering the UK).

I have long thought adverts with quotes would be fantastic, some of the things that have been said need to be made more public. I think this one is partiicularly good. Maybe get it designed a bit better, with a particularly bad picture of Mandelson and maybe Blair on it.

A few of my other favourites;
"The time for individual nations [in Europe] having its own tax, employment and social policies if definitely over. We must finally bury the erroneous ideas of nations having sovereignty over foreign and defence policies. National sovereignty will soon prove itself to be a product of the imagination." - Gerhard Schröder, Chancellor of Germany, January 1999.

"Of course, Britain could survive outside the EU...We could probably get access to the Single Market as Norway and Switzerland do..." - The Rt Hon. Tony Blair, MP - UK Prime Minister, Speech in Ghent, 23rd February 2000

"In Maastricht we laid the foundation-stone for the completion of the European Union. The European Union Treaty introduces a new and decisive stage in the process of European union, which within a few years will lead to the creation of what the founding fathers dreamed of after the last war: the United States of Europe."
German Chancellor Helmut Kohl, April 1992.

"Our continent has seen successive attempts at unifying it: Caesar, Charlemagne and Napoleon, among others. The aim has been to unify it by force of arms, by the sword. We for our part seek to unify it by the pen. Will the pen succeed where the sword has finally failed? " - Valery Giscard d'Estaing, president of the EU Convention, speech in Aachen accepting the Charlemagne Prize for European integration, 29th May 2003

Why not get some posters up now with something like"Have you been invited to the party?" telling the general public about the beanfest the EU nomemclatura is holding in its own honour to celebrate 50 years of itself?

Sorry I’m somewhat late on posting on this topic but I’ve got a temperature sensitive fault in my telephone line to my computer in my loft. When it gets hot, like it has been for the last few weeks, I lose my connection, & like the hole in the bucket song, it’s too hot to go in the loft to fix it. So, I have to wait for things to cool down – but I digress…..

I think Harryaldridge’s idea is splendid but why restrict it to Billboards?

I’m not high-jacking Harry’s ideas but I’m thinking ahead to the next elections, particularly for a UKIP party political broadcast. UKIP needs national publicity and in my view television is the way to do it.

Instead of showing whoever is the next UKIP leader, or any other UKIP ‘politicians’ spouting the usual diarroheac platitudes as all politicians do on TV, could we not have a collection of quotes like the first part of Harry’s Mandelson example flash up on screen for say 3-5 seconds followed by Harry’s second of UKIP’s response. Something like this is particularly effective in silence. We could string together any number of quotes & responses on a huge range of topics, not just Europe, & illustrating the bankrupty of ideas in the other major parties.

Such a Party Political Broadcast wouldn’t need expensive consultants to set up – it would be little more than a Powerpoint presentation.

A variation could be actual video clips of Mandelson, Blair, Cameron, Ming or whoever making absurd statements.

Of course it would need a computer / media savvy member to build up a collection of quotes and/or clips (which unfortunately I don’t have time to do) but I put the suggestion to you all.

(I can see it now….
1. Blair saying “We’re going to be tough on Immigration/ Crime”
UKIP response “ Labour have announced this initiative x times in y years”
2. Clarke saying to Commons select committee “ We don’t have any idea where & how many released illegal immigrant convicts there are”
UKIP response “ Why?”
3. Reid (Clarke’s successor) saying “We’re going to create a separate border control force with their own uniforms”
UKIP response “Which consultants will make a mint out of designing the uniforms? UKIP’s policy is whatever…..)

Think what we could do with Cuddly Dave’s gaffes or the LibDems weaknesses or even the BNP to distance ourselves from them in voters minds.

But I’m getting carried away…….

Regards

Are people mad we have had Billboard campaigns, we have done TV/Newspaper adverts, We have distributed millions of leaflets explaining how the EU affects us and how much it costs us bloody hell we promised all pensioners £25 per week from the Independence dividend where has it got us, bloody nowhere.

You could stick one of those billboards outside the front of my local for 6 months and it would make not one jot of a difference when people come to vote at local and national elections.

When will you people ever learn

You need to win over peoples hearts and minds.

Use the LibDem trick of UKIP being local issue campaigners - then at Parliamentary and Euro elections - thats when UKIP can hard sell the anti-EU British Independence message.

Build firm foundations with local campaigning - you will be rewarded by an increase in votes come election time!

Brendan,

I know from previous posts that you've had much personal & laudable input to locally publicising UKIP but your post reads to me as incredibly negative & defeatist.

Apart from resurrecting RKS, how would you positively publicise UKIP? (I realise that there may be a contradiction in terms in there according to some people).
