What attack???

It was reported during his election campaign in 2001 that he was one of the architects of the rail privatisation scheme, 6 years before privatisation was implemented. 4 years after the railways were privatised, he's working as the Comms Director for the Train Operating Companies pressure/lobbying group; ending as a Steering Group member for the same pressure group. All of this is public information. Stating public information is not, IMHO, an attack of any sort. He was prominent in the "Save the Acton Mainline" campaign and now appears to want to be involved in a similar campaign. Again, public information.

I expressed an opinion; I personally find it interesting that he's switched round 180 degrees on this subject and want to know if my prospective leader was likely to perform this sort of about face on other issues in the future.

I would also want to know what his stance is on the Safety Camera partnerships. Unfortunately for him he's in a no-win situation on this one - if he now doesn't like them, it's another 180 degree turn (bad news when influencing my choice of leader); if he's in favour he won't get my vote anyway.

Doing 180 degrees often is not a good recommendation for a leader, as witness our Prime Minister. He needs a private jet to live in. That way he can circle the world doing 360 degrees thus having the facility to change his mind twice in one flight.

However what have been DCB's EU views over the years? If someone has already said this pardon my lapse of concentration, but I am still trying to get him to do his job of Party Chairman instead of running around getting support for his leadership.

He doesn't get my vote. Not because I have just been caught by a camera when I wasn't doing anything dangerous, but because he doesn't appear to be able to perform as Party Chairman.

I suppose the real question is, of the four on offer, would he be best?
Or perhaps, if Richardski cannot get enough exposure, would DC [perhaps B] be better than NF?

Default Wait to see who actually applies

I'm just waiting to see who actually does submit applications to be candidates (for the UKIP leadership) by the time the closing date/time arrives. And if all the applications are accepted as having been filled in properly and with the signatures of people who are members (of UKIP) in good standing (i.e. fully paid up). When all that's been sorted, we'll see just whose names are going to be on the ballot paper.

Who knows, despite reports, there may still actually be only one candidate on the day - and thus no vote  . UKIP would, in those circumstances, have a new leader in waiting by this time next week.

Even if there are two or more candidates - one or more could still withdraw (according to the rules which gives a little time to quit the contest after the closing date/time for candidates to apply has passed by) .

There might even also be someone standing (for the UKIP leadership) whose name has not been discussed yet, although I can't think who.

The other thing to consider is if the actual performance of UKIP at this week's Bromley By-Election has any influence on voting for the UKIP leadership (with Nigel - the UKIP candidate at Bromley - saying he is to stand for the party leadership).

It's a two horse race as far as I can see so far.

Farage vs Richardski.

Status Quo vs New Direction

Default Place your bets

When we know who's standing perhaps the forum can organise a betting service so we can all have a flutter  on who we think is going to win etc. It might raise some funds for the Lechlade group and/or UKIP :P .

Default Mr Campbell Bannerman as UKIP Chairman

Previous comments have blithely ignored the important constitutional principle that all party leaders in the UK must be either Scottish by descent or birth.

Hence Messrs Blair, Brown, Campbell and Cameron are in office as party leaders (and they certainly haven't got these top jobs by their talents or achivement in other spheres of life). On this basis, Mr CB is a dead cert to be UKIP#s chairman.

Does not the forum look foward to the day when Englishmen and women may become leaders of their own English nation?

I refuse to rise to the bait and requst nomination papers
If we correct the above definition to require a celtic ancestry, however, then that includes Wales, and Richard covers that base.

I always thought 'ski' was a Russian or Polish suffix.
Celts tend to have the prefix 'Mc' or 'Mac'.
