Default Farage declares

For those of you who wasnt there or havent heard. At yesterdays south east rally Nigel Farage publicly declared much to the delight of the vast majority in attendance that his hat was in the ring for the UKIP leadership.

I wonder if any others who wish to declare will be given such prominent publicity on the UKIP website as Mr Farage has enjoyed.

Default Nigel Farage declares

I was there and thought it an inspiring and important moment, and not just in UKIP's history. Let's hope it will be seen as an historic turning point in the fight to get out of the EU.

While not knowing the any other candidates, I saw in Nigel someone who can connect with an audience, and who can deliver with elan a real fighting speech which motivated and inspired his audience. He also seemed good at listening 1to1 to the activists who lobbied him for their pet policies (N.B. Nigel, always remember England expects you to your duty by it!)

So Nigel has set the standard - who can raise the bar further?

Maybe he will be the best candidate. But don't forget he is a key member of the present leadership under which the party is drifting backwards.

How many people were there?

I would have thought it very unlikely that NF will do extremely well at the B&C bye election. There is only one issue at the moment which has the power to overturn the Tory significant majority and that is illegal immigrants.

Although the announcements at the SE Rally might improve his chances (an English Parliament [good] - a managed reduction in the population [how]), but I very much doubt if these will have enough oomph to strike at the heart of this Tory stronghold.

You can bet that Cameron will be desperate to hold this seat and will throw everything he has at the constituency - which is a lot.

What it will do is give NF a great deal of publicity in the run up to the final date for candidates to get their applications in.

On July 1, NF will still be just an MEP who likes to perform in the EU Parliament and get all of his allowances - which means plenty of time in Europe.

I hope this sudden flurry of activity will not put anyone who was thinking of standing off. We had a similar flurry of activity before the NEC elections - when they were over and NF had been elected - it all stopped.

What nothing from Nikki ? She seems curiously quiet ever since I left the scene .

Rather depends on the views of MN I suspect .
