Default UKIP,BECOMING A ONE-MAN-BAND?

What's with Nigel Farage standing for the B+C seat on the 29th June and his desire to also become the new UKIP Leader in September coupled with his present status as an MEP?

What if he won both of these Elections?

He can not be the Leader of the fourth biggest political Party in the Country,a Member of the EU Parliament and also a British MP.

One of the last two has to be dropped,MEP or MP.

Probably the MEP job,but who would replace him in that position?

The realistic outcome will be that he will just replace RK,who is the Leader and an MEP at present as well.

Would it benefit UKIP to have Nigel Farage MEP as its Leader,I think it would be a big mistake, the Leadership position needs to go to someone else in the Party other than an MEP.

Of course if NF MEP is the Leader and commits 75% of his time to this Country it would work and become acceptable, even to people like me.

If Nigel did win the bromley by-election he cannot be both an mp & mep so will have to give one up. I assume he would stand down as an mep which means the seat would go to who ever was 3rd on the UKIP list for the south east. Ashley Mote was 2nd but now sits as an independent.
I think Nigel must be the favourite for our leadership but as far as I can make out the vast amount of his support is here in the south east and i assume other parts of the country will have candidates they will get behind.
I had heard a rumour that there was 17 candidates for our leadership election but i wonder how many will now stand down as Nigel has declared he will stand.

Farage comes in for some heavy criticism on the EUReferendum blog:

Quote:
This is the man (Nigel Farage) who, incidentally, also worked to sabotage my selection as the lead MEP candidate for the Yorkshire Region at the last Euro-elections, putting in his drinking mate, Godfrey Bloom as an alternate, and then actively colluded in preventing a disciplinary enquiry being held into the gross breaches of the party rules which led to Bloom being selected. That (in)action left me no alternative but to resign from UKIP. Farage’s response then was to have me fired from my post as research director for the EDD group, leaving it to the group administrator to break the news, he not even having the balls to tell me personally what he had done

In the unlikely hood of him becoming an MP soon, If he is keen enough I don't see why he can't be Leader, MP and MEP all at the same time! It would certainly get UKIP air time! Just imagine PMQ with Farage in full spate!

If one man can, for the first time, keep the whole thing in tune and get everyone listening then good.

From UKIP.ORG
Quote:
Nigel Farage announces candidacy for Party Leader and Bromley by-election

02-06-2006

Speaking at the South East Summer Rally at the Emmanuel Hall, Westminster on Saturday (3rd June), Nigel Farage MEP, formally announced to the Party that he would be the candidate in the Bromley and Chislehurst by-election. More unexpectedly, he chose his keynote speech at the end of the rally to announce his intention to 'throw my hat in the ring' in the forthcoming Party Leadership election.

As a local resident and one of UKIP's most well known politicians, Nigel Farage is the logical choice to contest the Bromley & Chislehurst by-election, caused by the death of Eric Forth MP.

Nigel is 42 and married with 4 children. He has lived in Bromley Borough all of his life and currently lives in the village of Downe. He was elected to the European Parliament in 1999, and re-elected in 2004. He is the UKIP MEP for the South Eastern Counties and the leader of UKIP's MEPs and co-President of UKIP's European parliamentary bloc, the Independence & Democracy Group.
I hope all other leadership candidates campaign launches also get plugged on the homepage of UKIP.ORG...

You can be an MEP and MP Ian Paisley was. Nigel is good at what he currently does he should NOT be our leader which is a full time job in itself.

No, you can not. Legislation prevented it except for those who were already MEPs and MPs at the time the legislation came into force. I don't recall the name of the legislation.
