The SE rally was excellent - great credit to Steve Harris - and speech after speech indicated that the party is now moving in a rational direction.
Gerard Batten's forward plan was totally on the ball. PR is essential, and many including myself are now moving towards the English parliament idea. What was particularly first rate was the suggestion that we need a managed reduction of the population. I have been saying this for years. Batten is one leading member of UKIP who has not come from the 'Right Wing Conservative' stable, so it was good to hear him state that the rational place for UKIP is on the centre-right. Robin Page was absolutely hilarious; a real tonic. I just loved this: Quote:

I was there too, excellent day, notable for impressive performances from Farage and Robin Page, this pair illustrating 'dramatically' the City Slicker and the Barton Peasant, the two extremes of UKIP. Also the two most important responsibilities of government, defence and food supply were illustrated, which only UKIP can guarantee. The only controversial subject was 'English Parliament'. This has enormous constitutional implication, and needs research by constitutional experts. I would suggest that UKIP needs to maintain the status quo, on the basis that to withdraw from the EU, we need the various Acts of Parliament in place that provide the legitimacy of Westminster, as a vehicle to pass the neccessary lagislation needed for withdrawal. This argument also blows the English Democrats out. However, a compromise might be for England to withdraw from the EU, and Scotland decide whether to be governed by the EU or seek a deal with England.

![]() Just think ... if Nigel wins the Bromley by-election and if he should also become UKIP Leader ... ... he'd be the leader of the opposition.

It seems the rally was another enjoyable jamboree.
The real purpose of the event was ( after the humiliating May 2006 results for UKIP compared to other small parties ) to lay out the UKIP leadership plan to start making UKIP credible in public perception as an alternative "opposition" , and in paerticular :- UKIP getting its act together on local/regional government issues & fighting local electuions. ( including impacting on the SE plan ) Organising UKIP to start getting results The way forward to funding UKIP UKIP making an impact in developments in Europe. Could someone who attended the rally please give a summary showing to what extent a clear and convincing UKIP political business plan is emerging on these. ? |

a good result by UKIP standards. I think NW is being generous with his prediction of 10%. Let's hope I'm wrong ! |

If I'm not surrounded by philistines I'm surrounded by pessimists.
How do I find myself in such negative company? [/quote] Intel - I honestly don't think of myself as pessimistic, I try to call it as I see it. In the 2005 B&C. Gen Elect. there were only 5 candidates & UKIP won 3.2% of the vote. Cons had a 13,000+ majority. This time there are 7 candidates, possibly more. The anti EU vote is going to be split between Imagine (Chad Noble), UKIP and maybe the Independent ( J.Hemming - Clark).I Don't know what his policies are. Let us hope the E.D and BNP don't decide to contest as well  |
