Default Knife Crime

From the bbc have your say how to deal with knife crime :-

Simple; introduce a credible deterrent.

Murder/attempted murder with a knife - life in jail. With 'life' actually meaning life.

Threatening with a knife - ten years in jail.

Caught in possession - five years in jail.

As a society we're now more concerned with the human rights of criminals than protecting decent law-abiding people like that chap on the train. How sad is that?

Any chance of anything like this being UKIP policy ? I can't see it being very controversial.

That could be regarded as a bit harsh, however the rest could definetly be UKIP policy.

Maybe we could campaign on something like this in the byelection.

None of these sentences matter unless we have some sort of control over judges and the probation system. A year in jail for possession is adequate deterant if we can be sure that the police will stop and search people (without fear of being called racist), that judges are accountable to the electorate, and the probation service likewise.

I don't think prison is justified for possessing a tool.

Possession is too harsh, anybody could plant a knife, plus every "Butcher" in the Kingdom would be open to arrest! I agree with all the other punishments, I'm just a bit sad no-ones mentioned "Flogging"

I think for some type of knives prison would be fair eg flick knives etc (ie not dual use).
Regarding possession it would be difficult to plant a knife particulary with CCTV everywhere don't forget there would a burden of proof as now.
