Recruiting new members could be difficult for £5 per month/£60 per year. Persuading people to renew their membership would also become harder. £5 per month doesn't seem so much for just one person - what about families where 2,3 or 4 people are party members?
I don't think this scheme would generate £600,000 of extra income for the party, and it runs the risk of generating a decline in membership. |

Why should Labour Party members be so much more devoted than UKIP members - you would think the reverse would be true. Provided you allowed a concessionary fee for those who could not afford the £5 pm, I do not think you would lose many members and those you kept would be serious in their convictions. Perhaps a more important issue is that, if the membership do fund the Party, they have every right to expect their views to be listened to by the leadership and maybe the leadership would be more willing to do so. It does not take long, when reading this forum, to realise this is the great bone of contention with the activists. |
