Default Announcement: Business Meeting Delayed.

Announcement. Re. Business Meeting.

At the chairman's meeting early in May it was agreed to organise the business meeting to be scheduled for the Saturday 24th June at a venue to be decided. The announcement of this date and venue was to be published in the next Independence News and on the Ukip.org website.

I have been informed this meeting is not now possible and delay is inevitable.

Hence this announcement to keep you informed.

Unfortunately the meeting has to be delayed and re-scheduled due to auditing of the accounts not having been completed. There are various reasons for this.
Andrew Smith the previous treasurer has decided not to accept the position again this year and a new treasurer has been appointed. Last year, Andrew had great difficulty in obtaining full accounting detail from some sources which are required for the full audit, which will take at least a month I am informed. There are still difficulties in this direction I believe. The audited accounts then have to be submitted to the Electoral Commission. The Business Meeting obviously cannot proceed until the audited accounts are available.

For those not familiar with the purpose of the Business Meeting, it has two main functions: -

1) To provide a public platform for the announcement of the party finances after audit; and for the Party Treasurer to be available for questions from the membership in the audience who attend.

Also:

2) To provide for the election of people who wish to serve on the Disciplinary Committee. Nominations for this have to be made in writing before the Business meeting which is why it is announced in the preceding Independence News.

There were problems and some confusion last time as to those who were available for election up to the day before the Business Meeting. Though it was resolved and all places were filled last time, some felt they had been treated unfairly and not considered properly.
I do not wish to see this repeated.

Douglas Denny. Party Secretary. UKIP.

Oh I don't know. I'm sure there will be people coming up with conspiracy theories over why the accounts can't be announced.

Thanks for keeping us informed though.

Yes this is a big step forward.

Perhaps in this new spirit of openess DD might let us know when the leadership contest will be made official by an announcement in the Independent News, which, apparently, is necessary to make it legal.

Thank you.

I think they need to be delivered to members before the legal niceties have been completed - do I assume from your response that they are on there way?

I think the only requirement in a legal sense is that the membership must be informed by whatever means can best achieve it.
To my mind that means by all means possible: including Ind. News; the 'official website'; this forum; newspapers; leaflets; anything ......

My putting this on this forum is just another way of trying to get the information out to at least one section of the world. The "official" route is by the Independence News. I think information that affects the membership should be put out on all communication links possible and available
