The May issue is at the mailing house awaiting distribution. An issue was not produced in March because it was felt that the £20k production and distribution cost could be better spent elsewhere during the local election campaign.

20k for less than 20k members.

I don't think we are getting very good value.

So exactly where did we spend £20 grand during the local elections? I thought all candidates paid for their own leaflets???

Quite. We have 18k members apparently. Quite a drop but we must accept that.

Considering that well over half, if not two thirds of the members are "senior citizens" and are thus entitled to membership for £10, and a small number are students and thus entitled to membership for £10, we're left with perhaps a third of members, maybe more, paying £20.
Let's assume a third.

12,000 members paying £10 = £120,000
6,000 members paying £20 = £120,000
Total income via membership = £240,000

If it costs £20,000 for each mailing, with one every 2 months then we're paying half the total income from membership (£120,000) in newsletters alone.

Maybe it would be useful, then to have a leader which would attract some sizeable donations?

Geoffrey Kingscott, the General Secretary, said 18k at the meeting in Gloucestershire on Thursday.

If however we don't have 18k members and have less than 12k we're making a loss on membership. Which is ridiculous.

Maybe, then, it would be useful to have a leader which will attract new members?
