The previous thread is 8 pages long, so I thought I'd start a new one.
What changes would I make as leader? Naturally I would set about fulfilling my manifesto pledges! Here is (a knocked up overnight) version of what I would say. Quote:

No because
1. I wouldn't have a prayer of winning; and 2. I wouldn't be a good leader. My impetus for posting this came from your suggestion yesterday that I wanted the party to stay where it was. I don't. So I knocked this up overnight. If any candidates want to adopt it, I'll obviously be delighted! Any comment on the (deliberately provocative) substance? |

A great manifesto John. With such a clear vision this is what the party needs. Why don't you stand?
Contact me to get info on using the video email system to get your name and face out to the party members. This is the sort of technology we need to be using.

Although I agree with the generalities of John's manifesto, I would suggest a particular strategy. However, this is not the time to discuss such details. We need a new candidate who will adopt the general thrust of what John is saying, can anyone suggest who this might be?
I would have thought the individual needs to be be known to the majority of the membership. This was a significant strength for Petrina. Although I agree with the idea that the new leader should not be an MEP, this is based only on our experiences of the leadership of previous MEP's. Although I am a relatively new member, it had surprised me that Gerard Batten had not figured more prominently. He seems to be his own man and has demonstrated a preparedness to become involved in the UK. Would he be an ideal candidate, someone who could unite the current two schools of thought for how the Party should develop? |

John - I think that is very good and would not argue with any of it because it would get the party moving again and there would be plenty of time to argue points once that is underway.
You could say you will not entertain prima-donnas, something about the general election, how you would prepare for it and the EU elections in the same year probably, particularly candidate selection and target seats, would you expect to be paid, are you going to insist on standards for the MEPs and discipline for anyone who steps out of line, where will the money come from, how would you improve the quality of UKIP spokesmen ... |
