PROBLEM:
You may recall that the Lechlade Group attempted to set up a by-election supporters club some time ago for the purpose of collecting a mailing list of names of people willing to send in funds each time a by-election is called. The idea was closed down by Nigel on the basis that Ashford would be collecting all of the money required for this purpose.

Now that Ashford has ceased to operate as a phone centre, we will need to look at new funding streams for the by-elections. At the moment, there is nothing in place and any funding will have to be provided by the central party.

PROPOSAL:
That the party creates a ‘By Election Supporters Club’.

SYSTEM:
The club should collect a list of members, asking each of them to send in £10 or more. A thank you should be published in the following Independence News, including a list of all the names of contributors. To encourage more generosity, we can also have a special section for donations of £50 or more.

To minimise running costs, we should aim to run the appeal via email as much as possible.

ISSUES:
It will create more administrative work for the By-Election Coordinator, and will include a new role of finance collection that hasn’t existed on a large scale before.
