For historical reasons, the UK in the privileged position of being one of the 5 members of the UN Security council.
Currently the UN appeals to member states for contributions for its operations, and then it is usually too late. If there had been an intervention force ready, half a million lives could have been saved at the time of the Rwandan genocide. Should it be Ukip policy that the UK should push for the establishment of a standing UN intervention force? (It would be recruited on a similar basis to the French Foreign Legion, and commanded by the Secretary General). |

Total refrom of the UN as the worlds "police" is required, or it should be scrapped.
I really do doubt whether you could ever have a democratic, with teeth but not overbearing UN. The country with the most power always wants to call all the shots.

There may be some good reasons why the UK should not call for this.
However, I am more concerned about minor stuff such as the reasons underlying the fact that our party could only get one councillor elected in the recent local elections. Before we offer the world our views on any major general topic, I think there is some unfinished business for UKIP closer to home. Some outstanding matters include: How do we build up a mass party? Where can we get some real money to fund activities? How do we achieve credibility in the eyes of the electorate? How do we prosper when the political and media elites refuse to allow proper discussion of the EU? How do we get councillors and MPs elected? How do we identify, attract and retain a pool of talented leaders? Why can't we have a good internet offering? We have a great deal of work to do, and action needs to start now (and not just before the next General Election) |
