Default Buy British Campaign

I wonder if it would be worthwhile for U.K.I.P. to promote a BUY BRITISH campaign. It would certainly get the backing of the trade unions and the farming fraternity and it would certainly annoy the E.U. What do readers think?

I can remember a similar campaign in the 70's " I'm backing Britain",

But of course we still had a manufacturing Industry at that time.

I think now it would be very difficult to ask people to buy British, we don't make anything !!

It may be worthwhile to back the British farming Industry , by buying British food in the supermarkets, but as for supporting British manufacturing, is there any left ?

This is actually directly contradictory to UKIP's stance on free trade. After leaving the EU, the party will press for free trade agreeements to replace it.

One might be able to put together a sound case for encouraging local purchases on environmental grounds though.

It's called ATTAC - the slogan is "Global Information > Local Production" and "The World is not for sale".

I would like to see a campaign to expose companies that sack Brits so they can use cheap labour in less regulated countries. Then the consumer can decide if they are happy with those actions or not.

For example, NTL will never get a penny of my business again.

Free trade is great, but people should know the full facts.

They are shutting down the Telewest building in Woking, binning 6000 jobs, yet opening up more call centres in India.

That's a business decision by them, but I know what NTL's customer service is like from bitter experience. All Telewest users should be afraid, very afraid.

How many times do companies tell you that you will be dealing with Bangalore if you do have any problems? Not exactly open and honest about are they. I have shut a number of accounts I have had, when I find out this sort of thing.
