re Britannist's argument: the press have never helped UKIP much (though even the Telegraph did run a front page headline in the week of the EU elections to proclaim a UKIP surge), but to be honest the UKIP-knocking stories have been well-deserved and the press haven't made a meal of them particularly. This week, for instance, I don't think the Sunday Times Knapman story has been reheated in The Times (or elsewhere).

On the whole the press just don't take UKIP seriously (they take the BNP much more seriously for some reason).

Could it be because their leaders are sufficently committed and professional to actually pose a threat to Nulab/ BlueLab?

I do wonder if the Telegraph would have put UKIP on its front page in the week of the EU election if it had not been paid a large sum for newspaper advertising by UKIP (for the EU election campaign).

As for the story on Mr. Knapman's Polish workers not being re-heated in the Times (according to EU Blues above) I bet they (the press) have kept it (and other anti-UKIP stories) all on file to possibly use against UKIP later if/when UKIP starts to pick up again in the opinion polls/By-Elections.

The Telegraph is doing a bit of reheating now!

Roger Knapman, the leader of UKIP, has embarrassed his party by taking on Polish builders for his house in Devon, despite having been deeply opposed to new EU citizens working in Britain.

The Telegraph wasn't the only party to suddenly push UKIP, Britannist.

I have never doubted that this was done purely in order to scotch the expectations of the BNP.
