I checked it wasn't April 1st when I read this today.
Labour are to introduce National Curriculum for pre-school children. Carers will be required to monitor children against around 500 targets "early learning goals" and keep records of progress which will be used in every child's "Development and Learning Records" which will be set up from birth. Ofstead will be entitled to inspect these records from 2008 onwards. There was nothing in the report in the Daily Mail about children who were actually raised until school age by a stay at home parent, the assumption seemed to be all children will be at nursery or with child minders until they start school, but then I suppose if granny looks after her grandchildren she will need to keep these records or face the consequences. Just another army of busy bodies intruding into perople's private lives. No doubt it will be eventually impossible to enrole a child in school at age 5 unless they have achieved (and documented) these targets. Any bets on how long it takes to include finger prints, retinal scan and DNA Profile into these records? |

How pointless to have targets for such young children. As long as the professional nursery / carer has got an adequate level of childcare/education qualifications, shouldn't this be sufficient enough. And at this young age, love and happiness are the most important factors in a childs education. Lets concentrate on traditional methods, rather than the endless targets.
