Default English Democratic joining up to 'Elect the Lords'

The English Democrats yesterday became members of the Elect the Lords Campaign, a democratic second chamber a natural compliment to the desire for an English Parliament, whether the English Parliament is within a Federal UK or the simply as a Devolved Parliament within the current UK structure.

"Democracy requires the active consent of the people. That is why we believe that the second chamber must be predominantly elected. This will improve lawmaking and decisions taken in our name by increasing the legitamcy and strenghtening the accountatbility of the whole of our Parliament. We call for democcratic reform of the House of Lords at he earliest opportunity."

Hardly anybody bothers to vote in the proper elections, so who is going to bother voting for the House of Lords. The idea is fundamentally flawed.

Personally i believe the House of Lords should be made up of successful business people from all sectors of the economy along with judges, they should not be elected however.

The only way to get voters to vote in elections for the lords would be to have both elections commons and lords on the same day. As stated previously on this thread we have enough trouble getting people to vote at a general election.
Im not sure if i think an elected lords would be good or not. If the lords was elected that means Tory Blair wouldnt be able to sell peerages and then ill have to pay more taxes to make up the shortfull from no donations/loans that labour wouldnt be recieving.

I think the House of Lords should now be replaced by a Senate elected by PR. That will give UKIP a break for one thing.

No fancy titles either and the scope for corruption will be removed. Most of these plutocrats buying titles have wives who want to be 'Lady'.

I wouldn't even call them Senators. Members of the Upper House (MUH) would be sufficient.

Looks like English Democrats and UKIP are in agreement on yet another policy !

1 EU
2 English Parliament
3 Elect the Upper House

- you sure you consider yourself British rather then English ?!?
