Default Petrina confirms interest in party leadership

Mrs. Petrina Holdsworth said (in her posting to the 'Party Leadership Election 2006' thread at 3.33 pm today (3.4.2006) “Someone earlier in this thread asked whether I was going to stand in this election . Well,I am interested in standing .I think that I could ,if given the neccesary support from the NEC and activists ,turn the party round and help to make it a beacon for all those Eurosceptics /realists who want to see Britain running her own affairs again for the general good of her people . However,I intend to await the outcome of the NEC`s inquiries INTO phpbb_the Party`s and Ashford`s accounts before making any decision.”

I've put the names of those mentioned as being possible candidates for this year's UKIP leadership election in the poll at the top of this page.

I have not included Mr. Knapman (assuming that reports that he will not stand again after his term ends in September this year are correct). I have also not included the names of people elected to the UKIP NEC for the first time because I would have thought it very unlikely they would stand for the party leadership within weeks of taking their seats on the NEC as new members.

Unlikely, yes. Impossible, no.

Assume nothing.

Let`s wait and see who actually throws their hat INTO phpbb_the ring, be they NEC, ex-NEC or no.
The really important thing is that we actually have a contest and not a coronation.

For what it`s worth, I know who I will NOT supprt from that list, but don`t expect me to tell you!

Are we going to have another Scot as the leader of a UK political party?
Why don't you give some of the other nationalites a turn?

Default Software

The software only let me put a limited number of options. Those that want to vote for 'None of the Above' could choose 'other' as the nearest choice to it.

I originally wanted to put about 20 names down in the poll, but the software did not allow me to do so .

If it's true that candidates for the leadership will each have to put up a deposit of £500 (only returnable if they get 5% of the vote or more) then I doubt if the actual number of people standing (for the UKIP leadership) will even be as many as the number of names in my poll at the top of this page.

It is, of course, possible that the leadership will be decided without a vote - if there is just one candidate.

And if there were no candidates at all - then UKIP would surely make the headlines for becoming the first party in the UK to have no leader  8) .

I for one would want a leader who was strong, dedicated, knew about the media and about the importance of policy and messages.

And naturally, one who did not flirt with other political parties at the first sign of trouble.

I would also not want a leader who thought that sh****g on their own doorstep was a good idea.

I can only presume that Bellatrix is speaking on behalf of her boyfriend!
