Thanks for clarification. People like Girl Friday need to recognise the " moral" highground is usually a very lonely place, there are very few of us, except Girl Friday, whose history is spotlessly white.
Sadly in my youth I belonged to the Liberals but have now repented.

Default Sense in leaving the Fiberals

Jim H just wrote (above): Sadly in my youth I belonged to the Liberals but have now repented.

My reply: You saw the light and wisely left them. It proves you have sense and live in the real world.

jim h, You don't need to repent. It is more likely the Liberals who've left you, rather than you leaving the Liberals. Where is the party of Jo Grimond when you need it?

Default Spotlessly white?

I never said I was " spotlessly clean"...I did say, after all, that knew Ian Anderson....!

The truth is, however it may not suit UKIP et al, that many on the "right", have their roots in the National Front. It was, after all, the principal anti-Common Market, anti-immigration and patriotic party in the UK for the best part of 20 years. Perhaps 30-40,000 people passed hrough its ranks during that time (not at the same time), and fact is, many of them are still involved in politics, whether Tory, BNP or UKIP (or even Veritas and EDP).

Condemn the far right for its far out views, but the warnings and predictions of that party, and others that preceded it, have continually come to fruition. I can recall an article in the "National Front News", the paper edited by Martin Webster (NF National Organiser) - and one of the best speakers and minds on the nationalist circuit - circa 1980, detailing the future face of the British Police, looking like something that stepped out of a Star Wars movie, how true that has become!

I wonder what has happened to Martin Webster?

Webster's long involvement with the NF, and political parties in general (he had been in the League of Empire Loyalists - a forerunner of the NF - as early as 1959), came to an end in about 1984, when he was removed from its leadership. In the 1990s he assisted the late Dowager Lady Birdwood with the production of her newsletter Choice. At the time of the battle for leadership of the BNP between John Tyndall and Nick Griffin, he issued a bulletin alleging he and Griffin had had a homosexual affair in the early 1980s. He has since issued further bulletins, on a variety of topics, although he tends to do these via email thesedays.

I've heard it speculated that he might, if the conditions were right, return to party politics, but he has always denied this, and I personally think it is unlikely.

Default Martin Webster

Thanks VOR, yes I did know what happened to Webster in 1984, I also knew him, and was against his expulsion from his position within the NF.

If I remember rightly, he was ousted around late 1983, as the first big national activity of the NF then was in early 1984 (without him as organiser) in Yorkshire, where the South Yorkshire Police demonstrated their brutal crowd control skills they later used effectively during the miners' strike. It is probably fair to say that the NF, though briefly enjoyed a moderate rise in support after his departure, ultimately fell to pieces due to his absent status.

I believe he could be encouraged to return to party politics, but as to what party that would be is another matter; the BNP would not have him, the British Peoples Party would not, neither would UKIP (obviously) or the EDP, so I guess he exists in political limbo, as one's political motivations rarely leave you.

Default the flag /ian anderson

ian anderson -thankyou for your honest and open posting.
as you say being untied to a political party now gives you room to do as you wish.
ukip can use if they want to, your newspaper as a valuable reference.
I think we were worried, as you might have expected that the far right were trying to get a way in on the action of the UKIP lot. This wouId NOT have been good.

Be careful.
Just who are supposed to be the "far right"?

Searchlight are always happy to describe UKIP as "a far right vote".

You shouldn't use the language structure of your enemies.

far right; I do not know what else to call those who for example want forced repatriation of non whites. that may or may not have been once the policy of the NF but whatever, the voting public are going to think NF means far right. hence the (now defunct) national democrats rebrand.
I hate it as much as anyone if I am called extremist /facist /racist etc.
I think to say that is cheap.
