Default UKIP Forces Tory U-Turn on IMF Membership

http://www.ukip.org/ukip_news/gen12.php?t=1&id=1982

Quote:
Only a month after calling for the UK to give up its seat on the International Monetary Fund board, the Conservative MEPs have been forced INTO phpbb_an embarrassing u-turn by UK Independence Party MEPs.

Nigel Farage MEP said: "I am delighted that the Tories have come round to our way of thinking today". He went on "Admittedly it is only after I had written to the shadow Chancellor to point out that the Conservative MEPs were supporting handing over our IMF seat to the EU, that they changed their line, but we have to be thankful for small mercies".

In Strasbourg last month, John Purvis MEP, the Tory spokesman, had said that a single European seat on the IMF was 'an aspiration for the long term'. This of course is in line with the strictures of the defunct European Constitution, where it says in Article III-196 X "The Council, on a proposal from the Commission, may adopt appropriate measures to ensure unified representation within the international financial institutions and conferences. The Council shall act after consulting the European Central Bank".

"The Conservative policy on International trade is at sixes and sevens. It now appears that they will only defend the national interest when embarrassed INTO phpbb_doing so by the UK Independence Party," said Mr Farage".
Whoopdie doo.

I was quite excited by this statement until I realised it was published on UKIP.ORG. Did this get published in any British newspaper? Or was it the usual case of preaching to the converted!?

What the hell? Let the EU have our IMF seat? No chance in hell.

Actually, every chance. You're fighting a loosing battle on this one and this is one more aspect of 'british power' that the LibLabCon will give away.

It's only a matter of time.

Since the project of Europe started in the 1920s there is NOTHING they wanted that they haven't got in the end.

Some ideas have laid dormant for decades, but they always come back and are attained.

About time you read Booker & Norths "Great Deception" Modern Tory.

Is that Nescafe I smell?

Perhaps while Modern Tory is smelling his coffee he can remind us what the Tories did for independent British representation on the WTO - arguably a far more important body than the IMF.

If I could comment, Modern Tory, seeing as it was me who discovered this?

First of all, I had to tell John Purvis what the Washingon Consensus was and what the IMF did. Then I listened to his comments in committee, listened with great interest to his speech in plenary where he said that the EPP would be supporting this and we should be moving to a single seat on the IMF and I also noted his amendments where he reiterated the point that we should have a single seat.

He did not support John Whittaker and UKIP when we proposed an amendment that an EU25 seat was unnecessary and the wrong thing to do.

However, after Nigel, Gawain and I wrote a letter to George Osbourne, pointing out that this policy was written in the TEACfE they suddenly changed their mind. We are still waiting for a reply from Mr Osbourne, maybe a letter of thanks for pointing out their grave error of judgement? But that is what you get when you say you're Eurosceptic in the UK and then belly-flop onto the gravy train in Brussels.
