Default Brothel-visit UKIP Euro MP

Quote:
YORKSHIRE Euro MP Godfrey Bloom has confessed to visiting brothels and declared that, far from being exploited, most prostitutes "do it because they want to".
In an extraordinary admission, the UK Independence Party politician has said that as a Hong Kong-based businessman he used to visit whorehouses as if he were going for a curry following an after-work drink.
But in an article penned for the Brussels-based political magazine The Sprout, he claimed the amount of beer usually drunk by him and colleagues meant that visits were never consummated.
In the article, Mr Bloom – who came to prominence after famously joking that women did not clean behind the fridge enough and stating "no small businessman with a brain would employ a woman of child-bearing age" – also criticised the exclusive portrayal of prostitution as a trade exploiting the majority of women working in it.
"Terrified young women beaten INTO phpbb_prostitution often from Eastern Europe... is only a very small aspect of the flesh trade," said Mr Bloom, who sits on the European Parliament's women's rights and gender equality committee.
He added: "In short, most girls do it because they want to."
Last night, he insisted he was making a serious political point about proposals currently going through Brussels to "phase out" prostitution – and said attempts to impose blanket bans meant resources being directed away from women who really did need help.
"If they (prostitutes) wanted a job as a Tesco check-out girl, they'd go do that instead." And referring to the experiences detailed in the article, he said: "I did not say that I had taken advantage of a prostitute."
Last night, Labour Yorkshire Euro MP Linda McAvan hit out at Mr Bloom, calling his article "extraordinary".
"Once again, Mr Bloom is making comments that question his suitability for public office," she said.
"If he did any research on the subject I think he would find that prostitution is a very sad affair and the majority of girls don't have any choice in what they're having to do."

This guy is a monumental liability. Even if he has a fair point to make (at least in part), he does it in a way which makes himself and UKIP look like idiots.

So a UKIP MEP openly supports women selling thier bodies. If that is the sort of statement we get from UKIP MEPS then it shows why I and others were right to leave.

This man is unfit to legisalte over any form of civilised society, expell him now but before you do send him round to my mothers house and get him to repeat those remarks. I will take great pleasure in wathcing her smack him over the head with the Iron.

Mr Bloom should be talking about how UKIp would get these poor women off the street and INTO phpbb_training schems so that they would be suitable for decent employment.

No doubt prostitution will always be with us, but for most women in the trade I doubt if it would have been their ideal life-style choice when they got involved in it.

So, not only does he get money from the organisation he opposes, he also spends it in brothels. How appropriate.

Oh Christina, please. Godfrey was talking about a time when he was younger, unmarried and working in Hong Kong. Do yourself some justice and make comments that have facts behind them.

The EU is trying to outlaw prostitution. Personally, I think this will make forced prostitution run by organised criminals much more prevalent, which is the point Godfrey is trying to make.

Had drinks with journo the other day who find Godfrey utterly refreshing. He's not a liability - he speaks the truth that most people are to afraid even to utter.

Okay, Bellatrix, my apologies for my last post, which was inaccurate.

What is accurate though, it seems, is that he says that most prostitutes choose that lifestyle because they want to, based on his previous experiences in Hong Kong. How does he know that "most prostitutes" in Europe choose their job voluntarily? Has he spoken to hundreds of prostitutes in Europe?

What research methods did he use?

The original story in The Sprout, seems a lot worse, judging by the contents page here. It's a PDF
