There are many, many men and women who seek to pay for sex for various reasons. There are many who, if it were not for prostitutes, may never have sex. Sex is the most powerful of all human desires and it will not be denied. You may as well try and legislate against taking a dump. So - HOW do you propose one might ''tackle the demand'', please?

Wow - so good ole foot-in-mouth-Godfrey is actually doing us all a favour by opening up a debate on the pros and cons of prostitution!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE - can we have normal people on the next selection list for MEP candidates! |

No it wouldn't be. You can't reduce all of life to pounds and pence and free trade in goods and services. Some things are immoral and need to be guarded against by society and prostitution is one of them. For example, some people advocate that soft drugs should be allowed to be on sale openly but society demands that they shouldn't be because they are harmful to people and governments do have a role to prevent (to some extent) people harming themselves unnecesarily. |

Each person is capable of deciding his/her morals for themselves. At least, this person is. I refuse to allow any person or entity to dictate such things to me.

Polititicans do set the moral parameters of society though or at least they used to do! Aren't they doing this with certain types of crime and the sentences they attract?
Admittedly, we wouldn't want a politician determining what many other aspects of society and people's behaviour is morally acceptable or not but there does need to be some moral guidelines set otherwise we would have a moral free for all and that is just as bad as overly-excessive moral regulation. It is a question of balance between the two extremes. |

I've never required the services of a Lady of Negotiable Entertainment, nor do I ever envisage doing so, but surely instead of throwing around sentences such as "Most women do this because..." we could be a little more scientific?
Like ASK them, before making pronouncements on why they do it, and isn't it shameful? Personally, I would think getting upwards of £50 for a quarter-hours work is reason in itself, especially if 'tis tax undeclared. It's even better if, like G. Bloom Esq. your customer can't get there anyway. You pay the plumber's call-out fee when your bog has miraculously cleared itself, you pay the lady even if you suffer from Brewer's Droop. Who loses? |
