*** This is not a UKIP press release ***
UKIP today attacked the new bureaucracy hitting carol singers. A spokesman highlighted the cancellation of a popular outdoor carol service in Norfolk. The District Council claim a licence is required. Government guidance seems to be contradictory. The local clergymen have said: “It has been suggested that the legislation needs 'testing' through prosecution of so-called 'test cases'. “This seems iniquitous to us, and we have no desire to be prosecuted, or even rebuked, merely as a means to testing legislation, the drafting of which, as the confusion testifies, has quite clearly been flawed.” A UKIP spokesman said, "This government has produced so many new rules and regulations that you would think they could do it competently by now. But evidently not. "This is simply another example of unnecessary bureaucracy. UKIP's policy is to oppose unnecessary bureaucracy wherever it arises, and abolish it. It is harmful, costly, and in this instance is spoiling people's traditional Christmas enjoyment. "Shame on the government, and shame on the bureaucrats." *** This is not a UKIP press release *** John Page |

Only 34% in the UK think our membership of the European Union "is a good thing", poll results show. 37% felt the UK had on balance benefited from being a member of the EU. Only for 29% in the UK did the EU "conjure up a positive image". In terms of the European Union's institutions, 27% expressed confidence in the European Parliament, 26% trusted the European Commission, and only 18% the European Council. A UKIP spokesman said, "These lamentable survey figures were taken before the Prime Minister's recent cave-in over the European Union budget, for which he had no mandate. "They prove that the British people do not support membership of the EU. Still the major parties pretend that they can persuade this unwieldy, corrupt institution to change its ways so that it no longer costs us 4% of our GDP year in year out. That is a pipedream. "The major parties scorn the clear opinion of the British people" *** This is not a UKIP press release *** http://europa.eu.int/comm/public_opi...4_first_en.pdf John Page |

I'm not actually writing out a press release this time, but making a general policy point about them.
The OneLondon Blog writes about droit de suite - Quote:
1. We should aim to pick up examples of goldplating at the time and publicise them. (Note to Percentage, this will take us INTO phpbb_all sorts of domestic areas.) 2. We should publicise them with general media releases but also to specialist publications concerned with that particular regulation. 3. We need a designated Regulation spokesman in UKIP - especially because Regulations are a big part of the cost of EU membership. NEC, if I come your way I will be pushing for this. John Page |

Posting press releases we would luike to see is a more effective way of making a tounge in cheek point on what UKIP Leadership should be doing - more productive than a rant.
Hence see my posting today on " Fight Regionalisation of Police Forces " thread. The UKIP Xmas dream announcement. |

UKIP supports steam railways UKIP responded to reports that Health and Safety Executive regulations could force volunteers to pay bills running INTO phpbb_thousands of pounds to keep their cherished schemes alive. Their difficulties have been caused by the executive's interpretation of an EU directive on rail safety which, their association says, has imposed upon its members an impossible burden. A UKIP spokesman said: "It would be a tragedy if steam railways were forced to close because a quango of bureaucrats has gold-plated an EU directive. "Already we are over-regulated, which damages our economy. UKIP calls for an end to over zealous interpretation of EU rules. We also support a bonfire of controls when the UK frees itself from the tightening grip of the EU. "Meanwhile, we support any efforts by these excellent railways to have this ruling overturned." *** This is not a UKIP press release *** See the story in the Telegraph today - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main...3/nsteam13.xml I mentioned in another thread how releases like these could also go to specialist magazines, which might be more likely to use them. C_Steam may have some specialist knowledge here? ![]() |
