If a complaint has been made, should the discipline panel not pro-actively seek the information? Has anyone contacted Daniel Foggo to ask for the evidence? Has Tom Wise been called in for an interview?

This is starting to look like some sort of campaign against UKIP by the Sunday Telegraph  :x . Since this new editor took over in the Summer UKIP has only ever been mentioned in negative news reports in that newspaper.
Over the last few weeks we've had the Petrina Holdsworth resignation letters 'leaked' to the Sunday Telegraph, followed by coverage over several Sundays of the Tom Wise expenses matter. The story seems to be 'kept going'. Last year - in the Summer I believe - the Sun newspaper published a big article about Den Dover, the Conservative MEP, allegedly claiming to attend meetings in Brussels that he only stayed in for a short period of time  . It appears the Sun newspaper got one of its reporters to follow him all the way from Brussels to London (on the train). He was even photographed arriving at Waterloo. Nevertheless the story quickly disappeared. Thanks to Sarah Sands, new editor of the Sunday Telegraph, this latest UKIP-negative story has now been going for at least three weeks  . |

The sad fact is that the moment the story broke, the Leader should have had one of his aides spend a couple of days investigating the facts so that he would then know what action to take.
Roger did not do this. Nor did Nigel the Leader of the MEPs. Instead their failure to take action magnified the damage from the foolish Wise. All of the talk of "having to take issues to a disciplinary committee" is the type of bureaucratic nonsense that the EC spouts which I thought UKIP was against? Would Michael Howard have sat back and waited? The answer is of course no as happened prior to the last election when 2 MPs strayed from the line and swiftly had their elegibility to stand as candidates of the Tories withdrawn. Brutal, decisive and swift. The damage I fear from this, the 3rd MEP in trouble may be a fatal nail in our coffin. |

Tom Wise is either guilty of seeking to divert funds to his own ends or is a damned fool for wasting funds that could have been used to support the anti-EU movement.
Either way there needs to be a UKIP inquiry INTO phpbb_all the events and procedures involved, and at the least firm recommendations about the management of funds made available to MEPs. As others have said, this episode is a big turn-off from supporting UKIP for people who have gladly given time and money to the party regardless of their own limited circumstances. The Sunday Telegraph may want to harm UKIP, but you can't fault its right to report a story like this. If the Sunday Telegraph is wrong with the story it should be forced to retract it. |
