Is this pathetic or what? Remember you need 10 people to nominate you - 6 of these couldn't be bothered to go out and vote!
Edinburgh City - Murrayfield - 10th November 2005: Con 1327, Lib Dem 859, Ind 226, Lab 114, Green 58, SNP 52, Liberal Party 12, UKIP 4 |

The old Liberal Party didn't do much better. Sounds like a very small pool of protest votes to me.
I agree though, it is terrible. However once we have the value based ideas driving the party forward at three levels of government then we will start to pick up real votes. |

UKIP 4 votes? UKIP should have got TEN TIMES THAT BY ACCIDENT - i.e. old folk with poor reading glasses putting their crosses in the 'wrong' box  .
It's time the UKIP MEP's were obliged to canvass widely over the entire by-election period - in both local and Parliamentary contests. Most voters won't have met an MEP and will be impressed by UKIP if a UKIP MEP calls at their door. Had UKIP MEP's canvassed hundreds of houses each at Edinburgh Murrayfield I believe UKIP could have turned last Thursday's local by-election INTO phpbb_a 'three horse' race with every possibility of UKIP winning the ward. The local UKIP team seem to have done the best they could - but were heavily squeezed in a battle between Conservatives and Fiberal 'Democrats'. UKIP must now use the MEP's in its election campaigns for local elections, Parliamentary by-elections and other contests. ![]() |

Whenever we have a bye-election in my area the LibDem MEP is photographed with the candidate and a press release issued stating the MEP is fully backing a hardworking local community activist.
In the High Street the candidate and the MEP will be out and about handing out leaflets - with a petition about something or other - lots of publicity, meeting lots of people etc. All election leaflets will have an endorsment from the MEP - they even do a special leaflet with picture of MEP and candidate with the slogan 'I'm backing JOE BLOGGS' or whatever his/her name is! Our candidates should also say something like - 8,000 people backed UKIP in the 2004 Euro Election in any other constituency. If our supporters came out and voted in Anyother ward then Joe Bloggs would be elected as your councillor. Trawl through LibDem websites and leran their tactics! |

Small correction: my last posting should actually read: Exactly right Basildon Boy! All voters should be told in a UKIP leaflet what the best UKIP result was in their area (i.e. EU Election results 2004 for their particular constituency)
