If you don't have enough evidence that they have done so or intend to do so, then yes. What you appear to be adovocating is a six month jail sentence based on accusation without evidence.

And you didn't answer my question. Do you think that it is OK to give someone the equivalent of a 6 month jail sentence without charges?
If there is sufficient evidence to hold someone for that long then yes becaus eit is a matter of national security. Some people need to wake up and see that britain is changing, whether we like it or not, we need to protect its peoples. Sure, it is not the nicest way to prevent terror, but we do not have a choice. What happens if the 30 day period is introduced, and then a suspect is released and goes on to commit an atrocity. It would be too late then to say 'oh actually extend it to 90 days to let the police do their job.'

Remember 90days was reccommended by the police themselves so they can perform their job.
These wouldn't be the same people as told the PM about the 45 minute warning, would they?

All the 90 days is for is to turn over somebodies home, trawl through their computer records, do all the forensic tests, and do all the translation of every bit of paper in the house written in Arabic script.

And you can bet your bottom dollar that the police will need all that time.

Meanwhile, matey-boy's friends, terrorists or not, are out raising funds and talking to people. The words 'rod' and 'back' come to mind.

I wonder whether the people on here who are in support of 90 day detention without charge would still support it if they were arrested and held for 90 days without charge.

yes i would do, but i am entirely sure that i would never be arrested for such an offence, I don't have even the weakest link with any terrorist. People that are linked to terrorists need to be checked out.

End of the day- don't mix with terrorists!

Forest,

Remember that there is not a properly satisfactory definition of Terrorism/Terrorists and thus, dependent upon which definition they might choose to use, then it is a different situation. Also, there is not a problem here. If the police need 90 days they can get it even now, simply by applying for extensions to holding the individual.

Why transfer the power to make a decision such as who represents a serious threat to this country from the Magistrates to the Police?

Alex,

Any good solicitor can get a court/judge to prevent an extension being created, so these powers are not already in place, not by a long way. If they were, we would not be seeing the 90day debate.

Pete.
