I have always thought that UKIP is a party aiming to get INTO phpbb_Westminster, I also think that we should think of a few longer term policies that other parties won't touch, to offer something that the others don't. Just my thought.

Default Political Party or Pressure Group

Hello everyone.

Firstly, I would like to say that this forum, in my opinion, serves a very important function of gving our membership an additional voice and to share ideas. I will admit that I have some concerns about non UKIP members having access, as this inevitably leaves us open to opponents identifying and exploiting issues that are of concern to us internally, and also creates the opportunity for mischief. Nevertheless, I would still prefer this forum to exist rather than not. (providing we all treat it as a basis for recommending improvements to our Party). That's my view anyway for what it is worth.

I am responding to the question of whether we are a Political Party or Pressure Group. I would like to make my position very clear on this, which is also shared by the Wales Regional Committee, which I chair.

When we win the argument, and achieve the UK withdrawal from the EU in the future; saving this country at least £30 million per day, and giving back to the British Parliament its sovereignty, what a tragedy it would be, if we handed this over to the very politicians who gave it away in the first place.

We are a Party that has a common thread which binds us all. It is our anti-corruption stance that separates us from our political opponents who are quite happy to 'dip their noses in the trough'.

Why would any sensible person want these sorts of people to run our country?

I hope my view comes across clearly, and thank you again for giving me the opportunity to express it.

Richard

Croeso, Richard, and congratulations on becoming chairman of UKIP Wales. I agree completely - the old parties have shown they can't be trusted, and UKIP needs to build itself over time INTO phpbb_a credible alternative government.

Welcome Richard!

After a while it's pretty obvious who the trouble makers are, for members I can't think of anywhere that has got some many activists talking and helping each other.

Having other parties here can provide useful training, shows certain parties up for what they are and stops it becoming an inward looking forum for inbreds.

Many thanks for your answers, which confirm my understanding that the vast majority of activists want UKIP to be a fully-fledged party contesting seats in Westminster and local councils. This is in line with the UKIP constitution which states as two of its aims:

Quote:
2.4 The Party will campaign for a programme of national revival and, to that end, will promote a full range of long-term domestic policies at parliamentary and local elections.

2.5 The Party believes that individuals, families and businesses alike suffer from, excessive government interference in the conduct of their affairs and will work to free them from it. Furthermore the Party will seek to return authority and responsible autonomy to all levels of local government, whether borough, county or district. It rejects the idea of an extra layer of government in the form of regional assemblies, which would alienate voters by distancing them further from government, and undermine the principle of democratically accountable local government.
The problem is that there is no sign that the leadership of UKIP subscribes to these aims. It will be interesting to see if they still survive when the revised constitution appears.

Lawrie Boxall will confirm that many attempts over the years to prompt the leadership to develop policies that would prove UKIP is a fully fledged political party have run INTO phpbb_the sand. It is not enough to produce a (very good) manifesto once every four years. Policy development is a continuous process. It is little wonder that the media continue to portray UKIP as single-issue because that is how the leadership behaves. The website is the most visible example of this.

I think that he actually just left the party, and did not join Veritas.
