MEP alleged expenses fraud

When, hypothetically, is the right point then? Or, to put it another way, what is the remit of the panel - is it to investigate and sanction ACTUAL wrongdoing after the event or to investigate POTENTIAL wrongdoing and make appropriate countermeasures?

Personally, I think that anything that brings the party INTO phpbb_disrepute needs an investigation, and that the person, if innocent, should be advised on how the matter should have been handled and on the steps needed to 'close it down' to prevent further damage.

Neither. Its constitutional remit is to deal with internal disciplinary complaints brought before it by one party member against another. It cannot act without a complaint.

The thing i find really intersting is that Wise had this amount of money unclaimed........I have never yet been to a UKIP Meeting where I wasn't asked to put my hand in my pocket to contribute towards the costs of runing UKIP.

£36,000 is probably more than we are paying the new General Secretary.....lol.....

It seems to me there are two groups in UKIP, those on the Gravy Train and those stood on the platform watching it chugg past. If UKIP MEP's are employing these people then lets have a list of who employs who and how much they pay them....and how much expenses they claim? Surely this should be public knowledge....? If this was all in the open then there woulc be nothing left to hide.....

Apparently nine of our ten MEPs have employed an accountant to make sure all is above board.

I don't doubt the accuracy of the above, however it raises two points:-

1. Party Leader and all of the NEC are UKIP members, therefore could have brought the issue up, I would have thought?

2. If not, then what tool does the NEC/Leadership have if a member is suspected of bringing the party INTO phpbb_disrepute but NO MEMBER has made a complaint?
