When should the UK implement directives?

Of course we want to quit the EU or change it beyond recognition. But meanwhile, what should the UK do about implementing directives?

William Hague has suggested that the FSA "should only implement a European Union directive if it can be found that it is being implemented in other states".

Of course this scarcely addresses the problem that EU directives may not be appropriate to our unique resource of the City of London at all, but it is an interesting approach.

I'm not quite sure what you mean. Last time I looked both government and opposition wanted to be firmly in the EU. Why would they not implement directives?

He is suggesting the FSA should not be among the first to implement directives.

A good rule of thumb if they are not to our advantage.
