Thanks for that link BM.

Petrina was very controlled and came over really well. What a loss.

Looked somehow softer and warmer than previously, put me in mind of the effect on thatcher after her make over.

Bellatrix - my apologies to you because I did not mean to upset you or any of the UKIP staff in Brussels. I should have been a bit more careful with my choice of words - often happens when one is in a hurry so sorry about that.

But I believe my main point is correct, it is that UKIP's political activity is focused on the EU and the EU parliament - and that, for the reasons others have explained, is the wrong place for that focus. It was perhaps forgiveable (at a push, give them the benefit of the doubt and all that) when UKIP had only 3 MEPs - but not now.

I also believe that unless you personally attend for certain hours you can lose pay - I remember that being an issue for Heather (when she worked with me in the campaign team in 2001), when she was away from her place of work for several weeks.

But that in itself is a very instructive example of what can be done. I would gladly sacriifice a speech in the EU parl or a few more quid for some relevant action in the UK dealing with UK political issues. Ultimately only that will get UKIP members elected to Westminster.

The leader needs to be based in the UK and he needs an office and staff in the UK. The MEPs should forgo some of their money and some of their time spent in the EU parliament and spend more of their time instead working here. If they did that I would be amazed if their Brussels based staff could not also give up some time in Briussels for similar purpose.

That this is not being done makes me wonder what the UKIP leadership is playing at. Nothing new there though I have been wondering why they have been doing the wrong things for 5years.
