One of the basic problems that everyone seems to overlook is that the UKIP Leadership cannot "discipline" anyone. That is not because they are weak or lack the ability to do so but is a simple consequence of having no weapons. Did UKIP "discipline" RK-S? He left the party and now reportedly visits Brussels the minimum number of times required to keep his allowances. The other parties have both carrot and stick, what is UKIP's stick? Or for that matter what is UKIP's carrot?

If a Labour or Conservative (or to lesser extent Lib-dem) MP breaks ranks then they are not only out of the party but they are out of a job and their careers are finished but they are out of Parliament at the next election. If a Labour or Conservative hopeful works hard and keeps his or her nose clean then they have a chance at a crack at a safe seat next time, where are UKIP's safe seats? If our MEP’s leave then obviously they will not be selected to fight again in 2009 but then how many of them will want to anyway?

I feel that this should be dealt with by the Disciplinary panel, although it is such as sensitive issue that it may be too much for them. Mike should be regarded as innocent until proven guilty.

There are smaller sticks and carrots available in UKIP - we have a number of senior positions available, and if Roger properly forms a shadow cabinet then we will have a lot more positions to play with.

If Mike is found guilty, then he should probably lose his position as deputy leader, but anything more than that for being rude would be an over-reaction.

It doesn't have to be a case of 'in or out' every time.

So what do you propose to do about it?

Well if UKIP don't want Petrina, I am sure she will find a warm welcome over at ProgCon. We're a friendly bunch. Small, admittedly, but friendly.

When you're small, you need to be friendly.

Interesting report on the BBC website.

Quote:
The chairman of the UK Independence Party Petrina Holdsworth has resigned just days before the annual conference this Saturday in Westminster.

The barrister from East Sussex gave up the post on Tuesday to spend more time with her family. There had been "no acrimony", a UKIP spokesman said.

A replacement for the role, which involves running the party's affairs in England, is being sought.

UKIP leader Roger Knapman said he was sad to see her departure.

See! Petrina wasn't upset about Nattrass at all, it was just for family reasons that she resigned. :?
