Default One London, new name for Veritas-UKIP.

The London Assembly? Well, they are still discussing how the name change of Veritas-UKIP to One London might be interpreted: as a daft move or, more probably and infuriatingly, a smart one.

It is best not to let these people cogitate too much. One London has gone INTO phpbb_action by declaring London’s solidarity with the people of New Orleans, writing to the United States ambassador to that effect and calling on all and sundry to support the move and to donate money through the American Red Cross.

For the rest of the story, read the inevitable blog.

Hey Ukippers,

As you may know, Damian and Peter have been messed around and treated very badly by the UKIP leadership. They were never even congratulated on their election win by Roger or Nigel, and when they were considering leaving with RKS, Knapman bullied and harrassed Peter so badly it contributed to his heart attack. Since leaving UKIP, they have been constantly threatened with legal action, which has never actually materialised.

After the election they realised that Veritas was dead in the water, and the continuing stranglehold of Farage on UKIP meant they couldn't consider rejoining it. They were elected to represent the people of London, so a London party seemed the obvious choice.

Here's what today's Evening Standard has to say -

Quote:
Mayor's Anger after UKIP changes name to 'One London'

A political masterstroke by the party formerly known as UKIP. By changing their name to the One London Group, the anti-immigration party's representatives in the London Assembly, Damian Hockney and Peter Hulme-Cross, have infuriated Mayor Ken Livingstone.

In the wake of the London bombings, Ken has devoted himself to a huge publicity campaign entitled One London. Alongside the Evening Standard's London United campaign, it was intended as a show of unity. Thousands of badges, stickers and posters have been printed bearing the message, in addition to an advertising campaign worth £2 million. The Royal Mail has also been persuaded to lend its support, and since 22 August has been franking almost every letter that passes through London with the One London logo. But the One London name has not been copyrighted, allowing Hockney and Hulme-Cross to cash in on millions of pounds of free publicity.

Ken fell prey to a similar dirty trick once before. He was previously forced to change the name of his annual summer Respect festival to Rise, after George Galloway registered Respect as a political party.

The One London Group has changed its name four times in the last year. Initially elected as UKIP, it became known as Veritas, then the Veritas-UKIP group, and now the One London Group.

"It seems rather appropriate that there was only one London journalist present at their launch," quips one City Hall insider.

That's just wonderful. Negative press for UKIP, and they're not even UKIP officials. Damian isn't even a member now is he?

Daniel Moss ( Garage) is back I see. Still slagging UKIP off. You would have thought Veritas had enough problems of their own to worry about UKIP. Was this the same Veritas that under Kilroy would take Britain by storm?

Six of one half a dozen of the other. Damian has acted just as badly in the past. Dredging up this old stuff will get us nowhere.

They were list candidates; this wasn't a personal victory. A lack of congratulation hardly constitutes bad treatment

That is very unfair. If Peter has a weak heart he shouldn't be in a high-stress job. Politics is a nasty business. It doesn't excuse bullying (if that ever occurred), but pressure should be expected.

Legal action for remaining in UKIP seats having left the party. Hardly unreasonable. Damian is famed for threatening legal action.

The obvious choice would be resigning their seats and returning them to their rightful owners instead of forming a fourth party to justify Damian and Peter lingering in jobs that they have no right to.

er..... your group is formerly Veritas, formerly UKIP-Veritas. UKIP has never changed its mind.

So now it looks like they are calling UKIP anti-immigration. Brilliant. Thanks a bunch Veritas.

What a joke. This is supposed to be a serious political grouping? Stealing someone else's name?

All this name changing and clinging to seats clearly says it all about both of these two, they will never budge because to do so will mean they will lose everything they hold dear, like perks, money and position. What will they do when their term in office is over? Would any fool remotely consider them for any position or anything at all? Most certainly not, they have burned their bridges and will pay the price for ever more I'm afraid.
