Default Daniel Hannan

Having just read Daniel Hannan the Tory MEP article in to-days Telegraph about Britain quitting the EU, I was wondering if any of UKIPs hierarchy had approached him about joining us? If not, why not? The only reason I can imagine no one from UKIP approaching him to join us, is because they look on UKIP as just a Tory anti EU pressure group!

I suspect he's allergic to Cranks and Gadflies!

One of the real problems of converting, as I've heard time and time again, is that most of your social friends are Tory, and if you move, they'll cut you dead... That could be a factor, too...

Good point, I never thought of that one, I should have though, because I've had a similar thing happen , not exactly cut dead but definitely a bit frosty.

I imagine that he has had dozens of "invitations", including one from myself!

He probably thinks that we are not a credible or professional enough party to join and that he is better working from within the Tory Party to achieve what he wants. I have my doubt about whether he will be successful though.

He wont be successful. He would be better joining us, however we need to prove we're worth joining!

He wrote a lovely, heartfelt piece in the euro elections about how he had to spend all his precious campaign time asking farmers who were once supporters to take down our billboards! Bless...

Roger Helmer is another Tory MEP with views like Daniel Hannan's.

Helmer has said he will not be standing again at the next Euro-elections - perhaps he would not be selected again anyway.

The question is will the Tories be prepared to put Daniel Hannan on their approved candidates list next time, since his views are not compatible with Tory party policy as I understand it.

Dan Hannan was on the Today programme this morning, just before 8am. He was debating Britain leaving the EU with that Europhile Lib/dem MEP Graham Watson. You could almost here the gnashing of teeth from GW.
