Default What has UKIP done in the last month?

It is time to ask the question again. As far as I can see:

Paid for a Yougov poll
Prepared for the Livingston by-election
Chosen a General Secretary and by-election manager.

There has been a single statement from a UKIP MEP on the terror situation (Gerard Batten), but absolutely nothing from the party leadership.

Have I missed anything?

Nope, that's about it.

Steve Allison will be on in a minute to ask what you have done though.

I'm content helping out with "The Free Press", which hopefuly will be a nice constant Libertarian, anti-EU news source for Surrey one day.

Come and get me if you manage to turn UKIP around and build it INTO phpbb_a party people want to support. Might mean you have to lose a few people first, from whatever side of the political spectrum, but a real identinty other than anti-EU is essential if UKIP want's to move on from a pressure group.

I am not an MEP on a £60K salary or a UKIP member of staff though. Nor do I have any authority to issue press releases

From what Doug Denny said - to be fair - I think the NEC have been hammering out a revised version of the constitution and a nationwide petition is being organised on Britain's future relationship with Europe, to start in September. Probably takes a fair bit of organising. And steve's opened a fund for Livingston by elec.

I know and I agree.

I don't go for the leadership are doing something line. I look at all the other parties and I see a lot more action than UKIP's.

The BNP is actually urinating all over UKIP for activity at the moment. They have improved their website, regularly update it, have initiatives to bring in cash, events, jumping on the wristband craze.

All stuff UKIP could be doing during the quiter months.

UKIP is going backwards. Membership is shrinking. Poll ratings are going lower than ever. It's significance is dwindling.

Just as UKIP people ask what is the point of Veritas, most people are now saying that about UKIP. The Tories are now seen as the anti-EU party with any credibility (not by me, but by most).

Perhaps an impressive showing in Livinston would send a few ripples out. Will UKIP then capitalise on this?

Duck work (invisible) is great and required. If they do a good job of it, then the benefits will follow.

HOWEVER. There needs to be more than this. UKIP have to be seen to be caring about all issues facing Britain. UKIP also need to start raking in the cash! Relying on the members digging deep at the crunch times is no good. Different streams of revenue have to opened up. Look at the other parties sites for ideas!

Has UKIP got the guts to get out there and make itself heard? I see little evidence of it. Even before the election, it was quite scary how little presence we had on the national scene. The petition may do that, if it has some decent backing behind it. Has it got that?

True, but the NEC are mostly "volunteers" who meet once per month.

Perhaps. Does it really take 10 MEPs two months to organise a national petition?

Is that an excuse for not releasing a single statement about terrorism in Britain? The membership have NO IDEA what the party leadership thinks about the issue.

When was the last time you read or heard anything from Roger Knapman?

That was mentioned. This is what happens when things are delegated... they actually happen!

Yawn. Another bloody petition.
Any non-EU activity?
Thought not.
If I wanted to be in a pressure group I'd have stuck to the CIB, at least they actually produce informative literature.

The quiet time between elections is exactly when Ukip should be shouting from the roof tops, if we cant get in the media now we never will.
The leadership should be pushing for a massive membership drive, we desperately need to recruit members which would give us more funds and more activists.
Why are MEPs wasting their time in Europe surely they should be promoting Ukip in the local community, my local MP appears in our two local papers every week, he was even in the other week moaning about the new EU laws on health foods, there was a lovely picture of himself in the local health food shop, Supporting local business. Where the hell was our MEP.
I know our MEPs have large areas to cover but if they concentrated on one particular area we might make progress.
I know people will say we are doing good work in exposing EU corruption i.e. the Barroso saga but be honest how many people do you know outside of Ukip that even know who Barroso is let alone what he did, I don’t know of anybody I bet there’s a few people in Ukip that have never heard of him
My personal view is our MEPs should go to Europe when they have to, just enough to claim their allowances, they should spend their time building up the party here by making themselves available to charities, supporting local causes, joining protests bloody hell open a church fete if it gets them in the paper.

WORK SMARTER NOT HARDER
