Screaming paranoia.

You were dissing him for having Scottish sound name. All he's done is ask about representation of Scots in the party hierarchy.

Man, how many witches do you burn a day!

I am in fact the Regional Treasurer for UKIP Scotland and have stood as a candidate on 5 separate occasions.

The reason for my suggestion has nothing to do with quotas or "political correctness" and everything to do with the fact that UKIPs leadership are absolutely clueless about the political situation in Scotland.

Is one NEC member out of 15 or 20 too much to ask?

The Scottish Parliamentary elections will be held in May 2007 and because of the PR system, we have a chance of winning a seat otr two. However we need some help.

That's nonsense. Asking for a guaranteed place (a quota) has nothing to do with quotas?

Yes. Let Scottish candidates stand and Scottish members vote on the same footing as everyone else. If any of them won't play without special privileges we'll be better off without them.

Maybe so. So the problem is one of understanding and communication, our party SHOULD improve on this aspect, undoubtedly. But if you feel that the only way for the leadership to be informed on a given subject or area is by having NEC representation, then you are admitting to a big problem, I think.

Well Donald MacKay, if as you say, UKIP are clueless about Scottish politics a good idea would be for you to educate. Start a new thread or contribute to the Livingston by-election thread.
That would be more positive than having a gripe about the NEC

UKIP in Scotland has to have as much encouragement and support as any other UKIP area or Region. They must surely be as dedicated to the cause as anyone else in UKIP or Branches would not exist at all. The UKIP Scotland Branches may just astound everyone by gaining a lot of support locally very quickly. They should not have a given or allocated seat on the NEC though, seats must only be allocated after winning them in the NEC Election.

It's already been said before on this Forum that UKIP Scotland may be able to produce the breakthrough we all want to see.

I can vouch for Donald Mackay - we fought the Scottish Parliement elections together. 8)

In NI, we are, or were, twinned with Robert McCartney's UK Unionist Party. Is that still the case? Should HE be on the NEC?

We have had Scots on the NEC in the past - Alastair McConnachie springs to mind - so it is possible.

Chin up, Donald!
