Recently I visited the Richmond branches website and discovered a website resembling a party who have no idea of how to potray themselves. The views themselves were valid yet is their any need to use words like s**t and insulting 'Townies' ?. It gives a negative image to the reader , and reads 'out of touch' especially when Richmond is in London

I have personal knowledge of the website referred to and the member who set it up and ran it. He is now working in Switzerland. I have mentioned before - to no effect - that rather like the official sanction given by HQ to local branches to use the UKIP name and logo at elections, HQ should sanction the use of the Party's' name on web sites and reserve the right to close down sites that fall INTO phpbb_disuse. They should be monitored on a regular basis to ensure that the Party's name does not itself fall INTO phpbb_disuse as a result of situations like this. Sounds like an ideal situation for the disciplinary panel to get stuck into. I know for a fact that prospective members have been turned off when looking at this site.

Official branch websites, that use the parties material in anyway should have to meet a certain standard.
The party did try to do this, by telling everyone to use Manic Monday. It's all part of becoming more professional. If people want to run unoffical websites, then that's up to them.

Dude,
You can't stop people setting up unofficial sites. Do that and you enter the world of the dictator. As long as the person makes it clear they are acting in an unoffical capacity and doesn't use party property, then there is fack all UKIP can do about it. And rightly so.

Dictatorship?
Protecting the image of ones party is a right. If for example a branch of marks and spencer started to sell over sell by date food independantly It would still give a bad overall image to the company. the same applies here. |

I don't know which part of unofficial people don't understand here?
Do you think this forum should be shut down then? It's unofficial and the party even asked for it to be shut down at one point.

My opinion is UKIP needs to investigate the branch websites. It is hardly viable to allow unauthorised groups act in our name!
This forums poll shows most people belive in regulation ,if the party want it taken down then I don't see why it shouldnt by law it is illegal. Then is this neccesary, couldn't we simply change the user who currently administers the site and replace him with a person closer to the parties own ideollogy. I personally see no problem with the views posted on the website rather the way in which they are expressed. your views? Use PM if neccessary |

Official branch sites, absolutely should be regulated. They have to be to project a professional, consistent message.
Unofficial sites there is nothing the party can do about, other than work with them and be helpful, which may provide for some co-operation.

The party would be helping itself if it made the web templates available free of charge ( rather than charging) and had a much improved main site. Also it could offer free help and advice on setting up or point people in the right direction towards help.
