It isn't a clear majority of THE BRITISH PEOPLE any way as YouGov is a self-selecting internet poll where people often lie about their beliefs in order to get selected for and therefore influence polls about political issues. Though this is a positive trend it is not a clear majority in the way a MORI or ICM phone poll would be. For a start YouGov samples will almost certainly contain people with internet access in a much larger proportion than they feature in the general population.

I'm not trying to pour cold water but..........................

If I remember right, the YouGov General Election polls were pretty spot on as to the result, more accurate than MORI or ICI :P

Default 50% is not enough

With respects, I don't think it is enough. From what I remember, I think it is an improvement on previous polls, and if it is a truly representative sample, it shows that things are moving in the right direction. But it isn't enough.

Wouldn't it be truthful to say that half the people polled wanted out?
I think the trading bloc substitute is dangerous as it leaves the back door open for a resurgence of the European integration ideal later.

We need to work hard to move opinion over even further. I think a clear point which emerges in our experience of opposing the EU is that the more facts there are out there, the more knowledge there is about Europe, (as distinct from the pro-Europe emotional propaganda we get in the Europhile media), the more people dislike what Europe is and turn against it.

I agree with the point about Scotland, but I think there must be a lot of scope for circulating the facts about Europe there, and the Scottish fishing industry point must be important.

Is there any European link to the scrapping of those famous regiments like the Black Watch? For example, were the defence cuts there to pay for more forces committed to the European Defence Force? Is that an angle which could be pushed?

The more people know the facts about Europe, the more they turn against it.

This is the most important thing we can do, inform people what is going on in the EU.

Strawpoll on BBC 4 was very interesting. 60% said that "It is impossible to have a United Europe".

A very interasting poll result, but I must agree with mr Anthony. 50% isnt a majority. When Denmark had its second refendum about our membership (after we voted no the first time) the no camp had 50% and they were optimistic, look were that brougth us.

second. starting a largth campaign now migth not be the best thing to do but preparing for it is a good idea. if a refendum about your membership do come, then it would be a huge disapointment if it resulted in a "stay in the EU"

I thort the UKIP was ganing gound in Scotland. how strong it the now camp there (if it exists)

(again sorry for pore english)
