Unfortunately this is the opposite to what normally happens. Without a doubt mankind would still be in the stoneage if it wasn't for the muscle power of,horses, donkeys, mules and cattle and mankind have always repaid them by treating them like s***!

Yep. Fundemental principle of slaughter is it should be as humane as possible. Conditons of animal rearing to meet certain standards too.

Battery farming is barbaric in my opinion.

If UKIP is to be taken seriously then it must have the answers readily available to the public, UKIP members and candidates alike!
This is a vitally important point. To judge from the UKIP website, the answer is "no, there is no policy and no policy paper".

no, there is no policy and no policy paper
UKIP did not present a broad well thought out set of policies at the last GE. PPC's found, to their cost, in some cases they had to make up policy 'on the fly'. Certainly this issue calls for a policy, though as Anthony said it is part of a bigger issue - policy should be based on the bigger picture (in this case all agriculture, and possibly fisheries too - once we start talking battery farming its not so far to go to talk about impact of fish farms, for example).

I, for one, would support a strong policy in this area - and I believe it would chime with the electorate also.

I too agree we need a strong policy here against the barbaric practices such as halal and battery farming etc.

This seems to be something of a common area here, and this might be true of a huge percentage of the population. If we get a really strong message here, and soon, we might just win some votes on the back of it, which will mean we can do something about it!!

I also support a strong policy on battery farming, fish farming and any area of factory farming which amounts to animal cruelty

Agreed!

Y'know I've not seen another issue other than the EU that unites us so! It's things along this line that can and should be carried further and to a point where we can get it INTO phpbb_the manifesto, will someone put it to conference please?

I know you joke, but I am not a vegetarian. I believe if we use animals for food their time on our planet should be as natural as possible and their end as humane as possible.
